Is it possible to go to the longer tail on an 08 XB9? If so is it worth it? Other questions i have is is this modification safe?

It can be done but you will need to make adapter brackets because of the different mounting points where the frame meets the seat rails.

It will be a pain in the butt, I saw a guy do a write up on it over on Buellxb.com . He had to machine the adapter, it turned out pretty good. Have you ever thought about going with a firebolt tail, That will get your length you need, If interested I may be willing to do a trade of tails. I have a 2010XB12R in mint condition.
