Check the adjustment to make sure it is adjusted properly.

+1

Mine was doing that after I replaced my stator - it was because I hadn't adjusted the clutch properly.

I know people do it all the time, but I thought the clutch adjustment on the transmission end was an absolute PITA. I had to redo mine about 4 or 5 times when I replaced my clutch cable, and I'm still not 100% pleased with it.
