Hey guys I recently blew the motor in my xb9 firebolt. Long story short I wound up building a xb12 motor for it instead. I fired it up yesterday and its running great. But am I ok running my xb9 race ECM? or should I switch it out to the 12? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The ECM will need to be reprogrammed to work correctly.

I would at least flash it with timing and fuel maps from a 12. Not sure about any other differences. Well one difference anyway, the 12 has the exhaust valve if you have a stock 12 muffler. Did you use any intake or exhaust parts from the 9? That might require a custom map.

Well I have an aftermarket Jardine pipe on it, so I shouldn't have the exhaust issue. I may just run it how it is for now and see what happens, It really sounds healthy but I would hate to see another motor go on me...If I were to get the 12 race ECM would I need to do the TPS reset again?

Basically the whole motor is a 12 motor. The cases are from an '08 12, and everything was built to the 12 specs....pistons, cylinders, transmission, and most importantly the oil pump. It's just a whole new 12 engine instead of the 9 that used to be in it. I put about 40 miles on it today, and it runs great. More low end grunt then the 9 engine had, but I am most likely going to put the 12 race ECM in it anyway just to be safe

Is the crank from a 12 or a 9?
That would determine if you needed a 12 or 9 ECM.

If you reprogram the ECM, with a 12 race map, it will work. Just note the rev-limiter. 500 rpm higher for the 9, is not healthy for the 12.

Well I have an aftermarket Jardine pipe on it, so I shouldn't have the exhaust issue.

The header tubes are smaller diameter on the 9. Using them on a 12 will certainly change the flow characteristics and probably need fuel map changes.

Also I'm not sure if the FI manifold is the same for both engines. I didn't see where you specified which you used.
