I have a 2004 race XB. I'm trying to get the fuel map off the race ECM to go with the Beson I'm selling. Drivers are installed and look working properly. Guide says I need the ignition on, kill on and the bike in neutral. I don't have a neutral switch or those lights in the dash. Instrument cluster was neutered for the track, but I have the full wiring harness. Do I short/ground the neutral wire to the motor or frame somewhere or do I let it swing or do I need the neutral switch and full instrument cluster to get this to work right? I have tried to let the wire hang and grounded it and no luck. Still unable to get the COM to load.

Drivers from both Xoptiinside and Ftdichip.com were tried.

Any ideas?

The neutral thing is just for your safety, and not a requirement.

Being that you are getting a COM error, my guess is that you have the wrong COM port selected. There is a button that lets you choose the port, you can try the autodetect once you are plugged into the bike.

I prefer to manually set the COM port, as its one less thing to guess. To do this, on your computer go to Start, right click My Computer, click Manage. A new window will pop up, click device manager. Expand the tree till you find Ports, and under that your ECMspy cable should be listed (I don't recall the name it uses off hand). At the end of the name it will say something like COM4, that lets you know what port it is set too. Just make sure your setting in ECMspy matches that!

Froggy,

Only one port shows up COM4 right now. Running Vista. What should the Baud, Parity, Stop Bits, Handshake and all on that page be?? It's acts like it really wants to and then crumps out.

I survey and we always have to make sure the instrument and the data collector are set right or there's no work getting done at all that day. Every hard reset on the data collector has us going through these settings. Is this an issue?

I've been going through the Device Manager and looking at the Ports section. I've been swapping drivers between the two sites with no luck. Must be something simple.

When I get this done I can start modying the map for the other pipe and can. Runs fine w/ the Beson but too rich for the other pipe.

As always..thanks! I'll be messing with this more tonight and tomorrow. Parts handoff is Sunday afternoon. Yikes!!

i had that problem too, i would only let me select one COM port.. i gave up bc i didnt forgot to uninstall my ubs drive, i've done it before, but forgot how to do it, lol. when i have time to work on the bike i'll get back to it, just not yet.. but

i think what you do is uninstall your usb through the device manager, and then the computer will recognize your usb interface again, install and reconfigure. its like a reboot of the usb. then try to use ecmpsy and see if more options for the COM ports are available?**

can i get a "+1" on this?

**do not try this at home unless you confirm that a +1 has been noted

On the main computer I've been working on my XB with...decided to drop one of the ports I've been using, on its own accord..!

I've always used the port nearest the corner of the computer. One day, nuthin I did would make it open the port any longer.
I tried the port physically next to the corner port...worked fine.
A little concerned though, I only have "two" ports on this little computer..!

Damn magic boxes....

Did you install the VCP drivers from FTDI also?

If you plan on doing any logging and tuning with Vista you will most likely need to turn off UAC.

In most cases you should run the driver installation package before plugging the interface in.

If you are referring too the usb ports....they make usb hubs that can turn your 1 port into 4 or 6 for cheap.
