Froggy,

Battery is brand new and it is hooked up to a smart tender. I did install the Uly power point but wasn't using it at the time so I don't think that had any affect. The only thing I did was run with the dual lamps on and the jacket liner.

I know I really should add a voltmeter though, just haven't gotten around to it. BTW, I have a '09 Scg and I replaced the battery myself so I know it's fresh.

I suppose I could start the bike, rev to 3000 rpm, record the voltage, then power up the liner to max heat, check the voltage again at 3000 rpm and see what happens....

Think you'll need the electrical manual. Frankly though, I'll be surprised if Froggy doesn't already know the number.

If you put a full electrical load on the bike, you should be able to see if you used up your margin by simply measuring the voltage across the battery terminals.

If it isn't above 13, your charging system is struggling.

Reep, that's probably the best idea. Gives you the real snapshot of the charging system and what's going on for that particular bike.

I'd be really interested in knowing what accessory capacity we have as well. It's easy enough to figure out if you have enough juice to operate your bike as-is, but numbers would be useful in determining what future accessories you can get away with.

In my case, my grip heaters are 40.5W on high and my jacket is 77W on full tilt. Net addition of 117.5W. But, I saved about 16W by going to a 2010 LED tail light...so I'm around 100W over stock. So before I add things like a GPS, heated pants, etc., I'd love to know what I'm working with. Has anyone tabulated the electrical draw?

1324 - no, but we can start. I don't have my manual handy right now, but here's what I've come up with for things that need power constantly (not including horn, flashers, momentary switches, etc.):

ECM
Instrument Panel 1.82 (add .7 for hi beam)
License lamp 5
Tail Light 5/21 (Firebolt/Lightning)
Headlight Hi 55
Headlight Lo (dual mod) 55
Vehicle Speed Sensor
Crank Position Sensor
Bank Angle Sensor
Idle Air Control
Front Fuel Injector
Rear Fuel Injector
Fuel Pump
Throttle Position Sensor
Intake Air Temp Sensor
Engine Temp sensor
Fan
Lo Fuel Sensor
Sidestand Sensor
O2 Sensor
Ignition

These aren't on all bikes, but here's the stock grip info:
Grips - 18W hi, 11W lo

If you can find amps, just multiply by charging voltage (14.5) for Watts.

Maybe we can figure this out? Please feel free to copy/paste/edit as necessary. I may have something listed that shouldn't be, or forgotten something that should be there.

This list will also vary from S to R (different headlights)...but don't forget the turn signals, even though they are intermittent.

On a 12, you'll have the exhaust servo, too.

Available power varies by RPM also though... so even if you did manage to pin down exact values what you will probably end up with is "RPM crossover for draining versus charging".

(Which you can do with a voltmeter in real time ; ) )

1324 - I purposely left off the turn signals, brake lights, exhaust servo, etc. because they are intermittent. Normally you can exceed the max for short periods of time.

Reep - granted. As 1324 stated though, he wants to see the numbers for planning purposes. It would still be beneficial after adding accessories to put a voltmeter on and see what's happening, find the crossover, etc.

I need to find the old post, but assuming your bike is in good order, you have about 200w available while cruising on 3 phase stator bikes, and little less on the single phase 08+ bikes.

Cool, that would be good reading. I'm sure the post covers this, but is your 200W figure available for accessories or power above what is needed to run the bike (not counting lights, instruments, etc.)?

Without quoting the old post, but rough numbers were like 400w stator output while cruising, minus like 200w for a stock bike all running equipment (can't remember both lights on or not), so the remainder was around 200w for your goodies. I've had mine pretty loaded up - heated jacket, heated gloves, oem heated grips, dual 55w aux lights, GPS, XM radio, phone, race computer, and god knows what else going at the same time, and never had an issue while I was moving. Volt meter would turn red when I get to a stop light, but back in the green when I am rolling.

Found the lights in the manual and added above, not getting very far with the rest of it. I would assume that any of the sensors are negligible.

Agreed on the sensors.

It seems like the next biggies are fan, ignition, injectors, servo, ECM, and fuel pump.

I don't need a sat dish, I have the XM antenna and GPS mounted to the handlebar. I am thinking about getting an emergency sat phone just in case.

Also, got you covered on the fridge:

Also, I did consider a small oven, but then I remembered I ride an XB, if I want something to cook I just put it in the right leg of my cargo pants.
