So, long story short.....I have been bike-less since 2008. At the time, I had a heavily modded, cherry 03' XB9. I REALLY loved that bike. I sold it for reasons that are neither here nor there. BUT, flash-forward to 2010....it's go time for a new (new to me) bike.

Since last year, I have been drooling over the BMW R1200R. I have yet to ride one. I test rode a F800GS instead. I thought I would enjoy the whole dual-sport thing. Now I know that I DO NOT like dirt riding -AND- I did not like the 800GS all that much (it had some serious suspension and throttle issues). I still need to get out and ride a R1200R. However, the price tag for both a used and new RR scares me away. NTM, the maintenance involved in owning a BMW scares me away as well. I know the BMW's aren't that maintenance intense as other Euro imports. But when compared to the XB's, it's quite a bit more.

Since then, I have started to look at other bikes. I have been looking at the Kawasaki Versys, the Triumph Tiger 1050, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 (basic, non-fancy model), and the Aprilia Mana 850.

One of the main reasons I haven't considered Buell was (1) I always felt cramped on my XB9. My 9 was an SL model. I am sure the low version didn't help me feeling cramped. I wonder if a 12S, 12ST, or 12SS would help matters. I am not that big on the ULY. Too tall for my liking. (2) The lack of HD scares me a bit. I wonder how parts and service will be in 5 years???

Out of all of the bikes listed above, there are things I like and dislike about about each model.....price, power, dealer support, etc. I was looking on eBay and the BWB classifieds, it seems pretty easy to score a used XB12 with some decent mods, decent mileage, and decent age for $5K +/- $1K. To me, that is not a lot $$ for a ton of bike. NTM, I have always been partial to the hooligan style and ride the XB's have too offer.

So what do you think.....Buell or another bike????

Go with the Buell, because of the shut down the prices have bottomed out. After the last new ones are gone they will become rare and the prices will at least stabilize, can't loose in the long run.

It is a buyers market right now. I would suggest a 12SS or 12STT.

As for future support, hard to tell just what it will be like, but I am confident that enthusiasts (which includes Mr. Buell himself) will help keep XBs on the road.

The question is- has H-D done anything to earn your respect recently? If you feel H-D deserves your money and support then go right ahead. If you don't have an issue with the principle, then good luck with the parts, warranty, and dealer support...

The big frame lightnings make a huge difference if you are taller. Sit on one, you will probably love it.

I ride an '06 Uly, and my fiance rides an '03 9SL- that thing is TINY! When I bought the 9, it was a stock height XB9S- I lowered it for her. I was never cramped when it was stock.

Go sit on a stock one- I bet you like it.

FWIW- I love the Uy. It never feels "too big", and it is extremely versatile. I can run the twisties with anyone out there, plenty of power, luggage (!), comfort....the best bike I have ever owned.

Did you try sitting on one of the Uly XTs. Not that tall with a low seat. I think there were only 1911 of them made including all years. Ton of room. And the police don't look at you twice when the bags are on it.

Are you fat? If not then you can fit on a buell and feel good. Your height does not matter a lot cause i have seen really tall guys down to really short guys fit on a Buell. You can get extended foot pegs and diff seats etc to find comfort. If your fat you may want a cruiser, cause no matter what your limited to what you can do on a buell with a gut the size of keg.

It will feel good to back to riding (I have been bike-less for almost 2 years!!!!!). NTM, it will feel good to get back on a Buell. Out of all the bikes I looked at, they seemed uninspiring compared to the v-twin Buells. I am not looking forward to spending the $$ coin to get it up to snuff....that part pains me. However, I do enjoy garage tinkering on my bikes. The best part of this deal was the price!! I bought my 03 XB9SL in 06' for $500 more than I am getting this bike for.....$4500 for this bike was a real steal!! Glad to be back!!!
