How many people choose a preprogrammed race ECM over a custom tune? Seems like a good way to go for a lot less money and time.
I have a drummer and figured the ECM and a race air filter would be a good way to gain power. Had bike dyno'd and fueling was all over the place.

I've done it, it works great. A custom tune with hours ($$$) of development will ultimately be better and net you a tad more power, but for 99% of us the tune in a box is perfect.

And it really is only $250 (plus the airbox mods of course....)? No other parts needed except the ECM off the site?

I'll probably have one on the way any day now for that price.

Oh and easy to install?

K&N plus open airbox recommended?

Plug and play, do a TPS reset for good measure, and you will wonder how you spent the last year or so without it!

I don't think the airbox mods will matter, but be sure to specify in the comments when you order all the modifications you have made, just in case they have a better setup for your bike. Also be sure to mention your year, and that you have a California bike.

Thanks for the tips have been wanting a "tune" since I got it dyno'd and saw how lean it was down low last September. But this is way easier and half the price. Can't wait to try it out. Think I'll order it right now.

Just installed and started up. Idle was high but I have yet to ride it so hoping it comes down to normal when hot.

Still running stock filter but should still work fine, K&N filter comes in tomorrow.

Hmm not the difference I expected. No more popping. Fan only runs while riding on occasion and hasn't so far at stops. Runs well though. Will take more time and some uphill mountain riding (heading there now) to see how the low-mid range is. Again this is still without the new air filter. Stocks probably pretty bad right now.

When you say "no more popping" is that when you bleep the throttle?

Deceleration popping when off gas and engine breaking. Hoping filter makes more difference tomorrow.

Deceleration popping when off gas and engine breaking. Hoping filter makes more difference tomorrow. Also fan seems to always run when moving even early in ride but always turns off at stops or shutdown. Normal?

Both normal. You will still have a little bit of popping, just nature of the beast, but should be significantly less than stock. The Race ECM comes with the new revised fan control strategy.

And what is this strategy?

Seems strange, always off when I turn off the bike or stop at a light/sign but seems to run almost the entire time I am riding. It was a hot day but still strange, normally (I have the RSS) only comes on when I am riding hard.

Still not sure how noticeable the power difference is. If it werent for the sound (popping) I would have trouble telling them apart.

Still seems to run nicely, and maybe (hopefully) the K&N will improve it further.

The fan will do most of its running at above 15mph. This improves the airflow over the rear cylinder keeping it cooler and not needing it to turn on as often when stopped. It still will turn on if the temperatures exceed a specific amount.

I'm surprised you didn't get dial-a-wheelies like most others. Your power increase should be above 3k rpm or so. You may not feel the lower end because it's smoother. I'm gonna watch for your next update.

Bike wheelies well in 1st but not THAT much better than it used to. Maybe not much more at all.

But the bike runs well.

To Froggy, Not tryin to hijack the thread, but I added the "race ecm" & K&N on my '03 9R and reset the TPS. I then added the "Race Exhaust" about a month after that. My bike has popped a lot on decel ever since I did these mods. Is it necessary or would it do me well to reset again?

Buelltatsic...check to make sure you don't have any exhaust air leaks.

Buelltatsic... I did same as you on my '03 (S and got th decel popping quite noticeably. On BWB advice, I removed my new race can and reinstalled it using Permatex copper gasket sealant (AutoZone or anywhere) where the can meets the header. It helps prevent and air leaks which can cause the popping. Use a new clamp or at least tighten very well...

After I did this, poppng was clearly reduced to almost absolutely zero-- just a very little/tad of decel popping before the engine has warmed to full operating temperature, otherwise virtually nothing.

I think you'vegot just a little air leak, not a need for TPS reset.

Fast1075 & Bitbear ~ Thanks guys, that is a great help and sounds like a much easier and less expensive option than the tps reset, especially since the nearest Buell shop is 45 min away. Thanks again!
