Hello all.

So last Friday I decided to go putt around for a few hours, I get a few miles down the road at a stop sign, go to pull off and as soon as the clutch engages the bike dies.

My first thought.... " I've done this before" look down to pop my kickstand up and low and behold.... It's already up.

I restart her ( with the cars behind me getting impatient ) rev her in neutral no problem! Let go of that clutch and she dies again. Did this about 6 times and decided to push her. I find a driveway maybe 40 feet up to check her out in. I put the stand down and back up, cycle the ignition key and bam... She works just like a champ! Made it home with no more problems.

My only guess is the stand switch is going bad??

Any input from yall?
Any experience on bypassing the switch?

Thanks!
-Robert

Just another reason to bypass that piece of junk.

Rip it off and connect the two wires.

I think it is a decent safety feature, but I have to agree that you should probably just make a jumper to connect the wires at the switch. (or is it pull the pull so the wires are open???)

Ok, do the 09's have this? My kick stand can be down or up and still run?

Thankfully this "feature" disappeared after 03. Only exception is the exported bikes, as Europe and some other places require it.

Greg I am mostly certain that the switch opens when the stand is down, so it would be fixed by jumpering the wires.

I should probably make a jumper and throw it under the seat then.

That's kinds what I was thinking. Guess I'll solder a little jumper together.

For some reason cycling the key made her work again, unless the first time input the stand down and back up it just hit that sweet spot and wouldn't work again.

Who knows... I'll make that jumper and go from there.

Had that happen while I was riding my 98 S1W. Limped it til it would go now more. Found a piece of scrap home wiring outside of an electrical shop. Used a knife to skin the insulation back. Used the ground to grind the bare wire down so it would fit. Jammed it into the back side of the switch and have been riding ever since! LOL

Or you could shove a straight pin through the wires
