I have and 08 12scg and just dropped an Erik Buell Racing ECM into it. The ECM is tuned for a Drummer, but I have stock pipe in it. The ECM seemed to compensate well for that, but long story short. The E.B.R. ECM seems to make more and smoother power all over the map, but I still have the same problem with a miss/stumble which is most noticeable at the 4 to 4.5K range which is the same as my stock ECM.

This makes me think that my miss/stumble is not related to the ECM, but caused by something else?

Can anyone suggest some things to check?

I think if your going to use an ECM ment for a Drummer then possably your running like shit cause you have a stock pipe on your bike. If im wrong then I must not have a clue about the whole ECM thing. I was under the impression you must match your ECM to your set up. Wrong match and your bike will run like shit. if I were you i would mod your bike to fit the ECM then it should run great.

It has the same issue with either the stock ecm or the E.B.R. ecm. Most likely not an E.C.M. problem...it is fairly common for one or both plug wires to rub through on the frame, causing an erratic miss. How old are the plugs? Have you checked the timing?..

Install a drummer and work from there if needed

TPS reset? When will you buy a Drummer?

No, not yet. I either have to send the ECM back to Erik Buell Racing, buy a Drummer (which won't solve the problem) or live with it. Likely I will send the ECM in and have them set it up for a stock pipe and go from there. We shall see...

i still think it'd be well worth your time to get the ECMSpy cable from Americansportbike.com and free ECMspy software. It literally takes 5 minutes (once installed) to check your AFV. I'm willing to bet you're running lean as hell. My bike has an issue where it leans itself down to 70-80AFV with the Erik Buell Racing race ecm. When in this range tons of power is lost in the midrange and it will hesitate and jerk from 50%-75% throttle from about 4k - 5.5k RPM. Is there anyone in your area that has ECMSpy that you could plug into? If you find a somewhat low AFV, you can manually reset the AFV to 100%, disconnect your O2 sensor, and take it for a spin to see if this clears things up. It's not a long-term fix but will narrow down your search for one.

@Krueger

Does ECMSpy work with the 08+ Erik Buell Racing Race ECM's? I have one installed on my 09 and I didn't know that ECMSpy works...

Thanks,
Nick

I dont understand why someone would buy an ECM for a drummer instead for a stock pipe if they have a stock pipe and then wonder why its not running correctly. Then on top of that would still not think the diff pipe has nothing to do with it running like shit after people tell him that it why, never mind im not sure why i even bother with this type of ass backward logic. How old are you? Im really not trying to be mean but i just spent two days with my grandma who is 92 years old and she is doing the same ill logic things and it just stresses me out. would you buy a dvd to put in a vhs, or put deasel fuell in an unleadded car? or date a fat chick any time? Im so confused.

Nick,

Yes, Ecmspy works for these ecm's. They aren't fully programmable with spy but you can view realtime date and reset your tps and afv. EcmRead with tunerpro allows you to modify these ecms.

Pod, bright does have a great point. I just suggest you get familiar with ecmspy if you plan on keeping your buell

Indeed you are, because his issues most likely aren't ECM related. A Drummer tuned ECM will not run like "shit" on a stock pipe.

One more thing ifs its not got to do with the pipe or the ECM then i suppose it was running like shit before he started, i missed that part.

Brightbuell, you have a way with words. If you read the original post, you'll note that I said the surging was there before and after I put the Erik Buell Racing ECM in. The surging didn't change. Will it change when I put the Drummer on...maybe, but I doubt it. I've tried three different ECMs and the bike still had the same surging issues. So my logic - which is not faulty - quite the opposite actually, is that it is not ECM related. I was hoping that someone could suggest other things to check, but my expectation was met exactly, that people would tell me to put on a Drummer. Thanks, I never thought of that.

If my posts and questions stress you out as much as your 92 year old grandmother, might I suggest you not post, because what you are doing right now looks an awful lot like trolling and it is not helpful

Roger! Why dont you send me your Erik Buell Racing drummer ECM as I have a voodoo and Erik Buell Racing sad it would work on mine and i could try it out before I buy one? Just because we are such good friends and all. It appears I will probly be ordering one after all myself, but now i dont know. Mine is doing the same thing but I asume mine id do to the fact the 09 ECM can only adjust its self so much ans with my open air box and my vooDoo pipe its pushed it beond its limmits. its poppoing and gurggling 50 times every time i decell. its way worse then a harley, so im kinda in the same situation, but if I were to order a Race ECM from Erik Buell Racing i would not order the reguler non Drummer. That is my point so you see the choice you made was still not the best one you could have made. If I were in your shoes I would have bought the non drummer you know why? Because you have a stock pip and that ecm was not made for a stock pipe!
Good luck oh and I will send you my address so you can ups that ECM to me, thanks.

I have a E.B.R. ecm and a gbalias replica muffler...it burbles just off idle and farts like a fat man eating beans when I shut the throttle....but holy crap at the power under throttle....a hand full at any point in 1st gear will instantly wheelie..a snappy 2nd gear shift will get you another long wheelie...it's like night and day...I'll deal with the prissing around at low speeds...it sort of reminds me of a high strung 2 smoke with the pilot jets a fuzz too rich...feels like a RACE BIKE...only without the smell of castor or oil specks on my back...

Depending on your climate, 90 may actually be what's needed and ok for your bike. To test, go to the diagnostics page and reset it to 100, unplug the o2 at the wire clip that's probably resting on top of the rear head under your seat, and test ride that for a good 10-20 miles. This won't harm your bike and the engine light will only be on because the o2's disconnected. Again, this isn't a long-term fix, just a tool to help diagnose your problem. My bet is that it'll make your midrange issue disappear and your bike pull harder. My avf is limited to a minimum value of 100 at all times.

Sounds like a plan. I didn't realize you could use ECM spy to play around with the Erik Buell Racing ECMs. Please correct me if I am wrong. Will probably give it a try this weekend.

You can't reprogram the ebr race ecm with spy, ecmRead is needed for any modifications. All u can do with ecmspy is change the afv like I explained above. Unless you're a computer and performance engine pro, I wouldn't mess with anything. My changes have been very minor and reviewed by guys that know what they're doing. Reset to 100 like I explained above and you'll be safe

Just curious Pod... have you done the breather vent hose reroute yet? While my stumbling wasn't constant, I used to get a very pronounced stumble quite often. Got those crankcase gases routed away from the intake, and it cleared up. As touchy as the FI system seems to be on these things, I think the addition of those random non-combustibles were making my A/F ratio kinda crazy. Just a theory. Got the sludge outta my air filter, if nothing else.

I say we yard the whole fuel system out of that POS 2008 and put an 07 or earlier FI system in it this winter.

And a DRUMMER
