What is a reasonable price for a used 09 stock ECM that have never been tampered with?

I see stock ECMs typically sell anywhere from $50-100. All depends on the mood of the market.

I take it you switched to a Race ECM? I recommend keeping the stock one around. You never know if you may need it one day in the future, plus it will help with resale having the stock parts. Also it is nice not having to give up the Race ECM in the event the insurance company buys the bike off you.

Considering the size of the ECM, I strongly recommend keeping it. Makes a great spare if something happens or a buddy has a problem.

I understand. I am still trying to figure out how to tuen my bike. I need some one tp give me a step by step list. from buying the ecmspy cable to how to tune my ecm to fit my set up. If I could find some one who would help me from start to finish I would be willing to pay them something for there time. Like $50 im not rich. my other option is to buy a race ECM from Erik Buell Racing racing. In an email I was told by ebr to buy the drummer ecm and it would work fine with my set up. But it wont be perfect cause mine has a Voodoo, it might run pretty good though. But if i could use my own ecm and tune it good then why buy theirs? So this is my delima, any one have the perfect plan for me?

Honestly I would just buy the Race ECM. It is fantastic, no futzing around with trying to tune and get the bike to run right as Erik and the gang did the hard part already. Swap it in, go for a ride, and never look back.

Still, if you rather buy a ECMspy cable and try to do it from scratch, we can help you out. Just note that it is a bit time consuming, but its a perfect excuse to ride : )

Cool' i just found someone who will help me remap my own ECM from start to finnish. With the Erik Buell Racing race ECM i would get kind of close as far as tuned but with help and by using my own i will always be able to fine tune as my bike changes with me over time. The Erik Buell Racing ECM in my case would be a half ass quick fix and later would end up in a box cause its not eunable unless they unlock it for me. I asked Erik Buell Racing if my bike needed fine tuning would they help me and they responded that it would take them several days at there shop in order to help me fin tune what the Erik Buell Racing race ECM needed to patch the diff in mine vers what its tuned for. so it seams no matter what im going to end up having to learn how to tune so thats what im going to do. If it were not for the great buell family out there i would have ended up buying the reace ecm and would have been 70% happy. Good luck to every one else if you find yourself in this situation. Im not hearing all good news about the plug and play nontune able ecms. I guess one salution would be for Erik Buell Racing to NOT lock their Race ECMs. Why do they? Im not so sure it a cool thing to do to their loyal followers.

The Erik Buell Racing ECM is nowhere near a half ass quick fix, and would most likely be a 90-95% match for your pipe. The difference like you mentioned would be fine tuning, which wouldn't really be necessary unless you really desired it.

I am very happy with both of my Erik Buell Racing Race ECMs, what not good things have you heard? Out of the over 600 ECM's sold (old number, probably higher now), I have only heard of a few cases where the owner wasn't 100% satisfied, then Erik Buell Racing went out of their way to make things right.

Anyone using an Erik Buell Racing pump gas race ECM on a stock pipe and filter XB? Thinking about putting one on my stock '09 Scg. Wondering what changes I might see.

if Eric made ECMs for ever exhaust made then we would all be coverd but he doesnt. With all that said I have no other choice but to learn how to tune my own ECM. Why does Eric have to sell us a completely diff ECM at all why cant we just send him our current rerightable ecm and have him flash new maps on them for like $50, that would be more realistic and then we could tune it. There is the salution.

With that post you proved how little you know about the ECMs. Let me try and straighten this out for you.

His name is Erik.

There are multiple ECM programs available in addition to the Jardine and Drummer. The "regular" one is similar to the old Race ECM and is intended for the Race Exhaust. They also are currently working on making ECM's specific to the stock and other aftermarket exhausts. If you click on the 1125 tab you can see they have been quite busy.

The stock ECM is "locked" just the same as the Race ECM.

The Race ECM is tunable. The tuning software for it looks quite nice, but I haven't needed to use it first hand.

I never said his product was perfect. I know of a few cases where the bike would run right for one reason or another, but Erik Buell Racing straightened them out. Either way, they easily have a 99% satisfied on first try rate.

I do agree the $50 stock ECM tune would be a cool option, it legally can't be done. (Thank you EPA/CARB). If you notice, all the Race ECMs are engraved on the side "FOR RACE USE ONLY". Even still, Erik Buell Racing has to be careful, despite all the disclaimers Power Commander got sued because of all the people riding around with their stuff on the street instead of the track like intended.

I hope this helps! : )

Bright, there is no way for you to be able to tune your stock ecm as well as the Erik Buell Racing one unless you have access to a dyno or some wideband O2 sensors and do lots of data logging. And for 50 bucks, that won't get you squat. Full map on a Buell takes about 3-5 hours depending and we charge 300.00. So the Erik Buell Racing for 250 is quite the deal.

I understand, im buying an ecmspy cable and im going to download a map thats set for a bike that is almost exactly setup the same as mine. It will be much better then I currently have now. Im in touch with a guy who is a pro and the map is his personal creation. I am going to back up my info. I may later get a wideban sensor if I ever get to where i feel safe with my understanding. Im a computer nerd at home so im ok with seeing how things go. I wont take getting a Erik Buell Racing ECM off the table. If my effort does not work I will order one and post her what happends eather way. My cable will get here tomorrow so i will do a follow up post soon.

While you are in there, disable the Active Muffler Control if its still enabled. (Assuming your Voodoo has no valve)

Is the Active Muffler Control an option in the ECM? Im sure its still enabled, because I know the guy who did my mods before I bought the bike did not map the bike to the mods. I just ran on a dyno and was only pushing 76 hp. So once I do remap my bike there is going to be a world of diff. I cant believe I have been riding since last Nov with only 76HP. This is what happens if you mod and dont map to match.
Froggy what HP are you running at with you race ECM?
What are all you guys as far as HP and what mods do you have. we should make a chart so everyone can see before they mod what they will get.

Also the 09 ecm is suppost to adjust its self to any changes but it will only do very small adjustments like to altitud changese or temp changes etc. not huge changes like an intake and exhaust mod. So thats why my bike is at 76HP, my bikes previous owner must have figured it would auto adjust and thought he was done. WRONG!!

Yes, it can be turned on and off with Tunerpro.

quote:

Yep! Not only peak power, but overall driveability. Many of the aftermarket exhausts will skew the power band and can make flat spots. The stock muffler was really two exhausts in one, controlled by the valve. Valve closed for good low and mid range power, valve opens for a more straight through path when you are wide open.

I cant believe I have been riding since last Nov with only 76HP.

I have rode 13k miles since last July on my Blast with only 25hp at the wheel. : D

The only real issue with running a mod without a proper tune, you can potentially cause the engine to run lean and burn a valve. The loss of smoothness in the engine, flat spots in power band, stuttering, etc, are all just nuisances but nothing to really worry about.

quote:

Froggy do you have any idea what HP you are running at with your race ECM??

Beats me, I haven't had it dynoed in over 2 years. Not that it matters anyway, My bike might get 150hp on my dyno, and 42hp on your dyno. Weather, dyno operator, dyno brand, dyno conditions, and a billion other factors come into play. A dyno is only good for comparing two setups if they were both run on the same dyno and hopefully within a good timeframe of each other. This is why the American Sport Bike exhaust shootouts are an invaluable asset, as they show what multiple pipes do on the same bike on the same day with the same conditions.

OK I lied, here was my last dyno:

Bike was a 06 XB12, running K&N filter, American Sport Bike Open Airbox and breather reroute, Buell P&A Race ECM, not mapped for either pipe. I was having my Drummer switched to a Micron, so I had them dyno before and after to show any gains. I have since reprogrammed the Race ECM with a map for the Micron made by American Sport Bike. Beats me if it makes more power, I honestly don't care, but it runs a hell of a lot better! : )

Now don't compare my chart to yours, as it is meaningless due to the reasons I stated above.

Ok, here is mine. i got it at gateway Harley Davidson. It was free and I was one of three buells in about 300 Harleys. They guy didnt feel it nessisary to hook up the wire that monitors the torque. So this is all I got. So being that it was a Harley Dealership im sure it was not taken serious. So here you go. look at these numbers, oh and look at the top speed. My honda CB360 might be able to take it in top speed.

I don't believe that graph is accurate, there should be no problem redlining any Buell on the dyno, and I bet even in the wind the top end wouldn't drop off that quickly. You should be able to do that speed in fourth (115mph). Maybe the guy had it in the wrong gear or told the software the wrong gear ratio.

I agree, i have had it up to 112mph and still going with no problem so i guess the 76hp is way off too. I was freaking out! I didnt know if the operator was a buell hater it would make a diff to my results, so i will erase these numbers from my head.

Yea, you know the only thing a dyno measures is torque right? (OK pretty much the only thing).

Horsepower is determined by measuring torque, multiplying by the RPM, then dividing it by 5250.

Basically, your dyno chart doesn't mean
much, so don't worry about it registering 74hp. What you will want to do however, is get a few real dyno pulls done (paid), that way they are measuring everything, and not giving you a squiggly line on paper. Do this before the tune, and after.

Oh and about the top speed, it looks like they ran it in 4th, not 5th. 5th gear banging off the rev limiter is about 145mph on a 09, depending on tire life and pressure.

I doubt he is a Buell hater, but even my local dealer does the freebie dyno runs, which is basically just a penis measuring contest. You and 50 other guys want the thing done, so they just throw it on, do a quick run, then get the next guy going. Similar to a McDonald's cheese burger vs one at a restaurant.

I got my ecmspy cable and put it together. I hope it works. it looks a little cheap for $24 plus $10 shipping in an envelope. He could have at least gave me a reach around. Anyway my buddy is going to get back with me soon to get me started installing a custom map to reprogram my ecm. Im to assume it will be kind of close is many ways to an Erik Buell Racing race ECM. More power and a little less popping. Or it might not start at all. I shall return with the facts. Wish me luck. I am nervous.

Ok, got the cable, and down loaded the drivers. I downloaded the ecmread program, them it said i needed this other Mono program so I go to download it and i can find it availible for windows 7. so i just hit a brick wall. My new laptop uses windows 7 and my garage does not have power for me to drag one of the desktops out side. So I might be getting a buell Drummer Race ECM. Im going to wait a bit to see if I can com up with another salution for this windows 7 problem. Anyone have mono for windows 7?

hey guy whats up with that poor horse? There is a thread over at buellxb.com that many people are haveing great success with. they are buying an ECMspy cable downloading the cable drivers, a program called Mono, and ECMread. They are fetching their Eproom/ map # and then getting a much better tuned map from another more exper buell brother who has the exact same set up they have. so this map they are getting that comes from a person who knows what they are doing and have done it them selves becomes their mentor through the whole very simple process. Although this is not for everyone mental level it is pretty simple and A great tried and true way to reduce a lot of the studdering and poping and the over all lean fuel and air mixture caused by the opend air box/ breather rerought and race pipe mods. mine will be complete by this evening and i will let you all know what i notice diff and if there really is a reduction in popping and a gain in power. Its the same consept that the Erik Buell Racing Ecm provides. before 50 people start bitching about it keep in mind that at least 100 people have polished up their ECM this way. I will let you know what happends.
