Has anyone tried mounting the IAT sensor outside the intake snorkel? Somewhere it would get a truer reading. Or am I missing something?

I would think that the intake horn is the ideal place to check Intake Air Temperature.

You should be looking to improve the temperature of the air, not move the sensor. It is exactly where it should be.

The fuel and possibly the timing maps are written for the sensor reading the intake temperature of this bike with the hot air from the radiators, if you relocate the sensor the bike will think you are in a very cold environment and try to compensate, probably not by much but not a good thing.
