G’day all, just started riding my recently purchased ‘09 1125R & the speedo & gear position indicator are mysteriously dropping out, then returning ! I’m not sure if it’s a result of bumpy roads & a bad connection somewhere, or if there is a Buell gremlin that others have come across? Anyone else had this issue before?

Could be a ground issue. Check the ground that is on the front of the steering neck.

Could be a bad speedo sensor. Since the gear comes from a calculation the ECM does relating to speed and RPM. Unplug the sensor, Under the seat, left side (3 wire plug), see if the acts the same.

New sensor is about $90 from St. Paul HD

When I bought my 08 1125r, I had problems with bike on first ride home. Speedo cluster started flaking out. Took back to dealer. They diagnosed as bad connector from ECM to instrument cluster. If I remember correctly.
They put a new 09 cluster in and a reflash of computer. All under warranty. Been fine ever since. Hope this info helps.

Another idea, the speedo sensor gets its power from the horn/brake light fuse, might check that out.
