Giving the bike some throttle and missed the shift from first to second. Pulled up a couple more times with the clutch for good measure (have the quick shifter) and still nothing. The thing won't grab any gears. Safe bet I'm going to have to pull the transmission and tear it down. Can anyone direct me to a good write up? Couldn't find anything with the search and while I have the manual nothing beats experience

Thats doesn't sound like a transmission failure, it sounds like a shifter pawl got out of place. MUCH simpler to fix.

Happens on XB's that fall over, slightly different system, but same applies. At least you can see the shift drum turning to know for sure its the trans or not.

In the manual you have. Section 6.7, page 6-32.

Thank you for the response. Thought I replied to this before, but guess I didn't post it.

Finally had time to dig into the bike, not the easiest to work on. The shift pawl was in the right spot and the index shim will rotate to first, neutral and second. Going for third it stops and and there's a metallic thunk sound.

Will keep tearing into it, but don't have a good feeling about it.
