Hello everyone, I have searched and searched forums, youtube, google and everywhere else I can imagine and no one seems to have what I'm looking for as I am just too stupid to figure it out myself.

Anyhow I have figured out how to use ECM spy, I know how to log and convert it to MSL. I see people using this "VE analyse" thing but upon pressing the button on my computer for it nothing happens. It's grayed out.

I've read both entire guides of using tuner pro and all on ECMspys page but that didn't help at all. It's like I'm missing that part of the program.

I'm to the point I will pay someone to get on the phone with me and walk me through what the hell I'm doing or not doing wrong.

I'm mechanically and computer savvy so this shouldn't be an issue.

The megalogviewer help button is useless and the VE analysis help button says nothing on how to even get to the VE analysis page of the program.

Please help. Like I said I would be more than happy to pay someone for the phone call.

Thank you.

Email is lincolnscott7@gmail.com
Phone is 417-255-5743

Thank you and kind regards

Ok I think I may have gotten a little further with it.

Had to read and reread the full guide but I might have gotten it.

Although it would still be nice to have someone make sure I've set this up correctly. I have the bluetooth adapter and the ecm-usb cable on the way but I'm unable to set up the correct com port for the ftdi driver to work correctly.

Any advice on that as well??

You are pissing into a typhoon with ECM Spy. All you will do is get frustrated. You will need to acquire a proper tunable ECM and matching software. You will then have to replace the cheap digital o2 sensors with proper Bosch analog units before even attempting to use the data logger. Please note that you will have to disable closed loop operation to get any partial throttle tuning, as that would be dictated by the o2 sensors. The race ECM only uses open loop mode. All of this is of course illegal for the street.

Setting up the comm port is specific to whatever PC you are using, so check instructions there, it's not a ECMSpy thing but common when using that type of program that uses USB to (comm)unicate with something else.

If you need to build a tune from scratch, like if you have a 1275 kit or added a turbo, ECMSpy is a very good tool for that.

If you just have the typical air filter/exhaust changes I would suggest the free program ECMDroid (on google play store) because it is VASTLY easier to use and datalog for just swapping tunes or using MLV to check yours.

MLV can use the .xpr file from ECMDroid as well.

I understand you've got this far and want to finish using ECMSpy, but if all you are doing is datalogging and MLV, ECMDroid is wireless, simple, and fast to use. The right tool for the job...

STEVEL "You are pissing into a typhoon with ECM Spy. All you will do is get frustrated. It's actually a great program, but meant to do EVERYTHING. Options scare people
You will need to acquire a proper tunable ECM and matching software. What does that mean? EVERY Buell ECM is tunable and whats more 'proper' than OE? and whats "Matching software" mean?
You will then have to replace the cheap digital o2 sensors with proper Bosch analog units before even attempting to use the data logger. Not sure what "digital" or "analog" means? Do you mean NarrowBand (NB) vs Wideband (WB)? you can tune with NB just fine. Yes, WB is better/faster but not a requirement. A NB O2 tells the ECM if it is rich or lean, a WB O2 tell the ECM how much it is rich or lean.
Please note that you will have to disable closed loop operation to get any partial throttle tuning, as that would be dictated by the o2 sensors. True, but thats not why. You disable CL simply so the ECM isn't correcting the values you are testing. You can use a WB O2 to emulate a NB O2 and run the bike in CL just fine
The race ECM only uses open loop mode. Sorry, no. The Buell/EBR RACE ECM has closed loop functionality turned on
All of this is of course illegal for the street. With no inspections, or testing, I'd like to meet the guy who gets in trouble for one tuned ECM"

Data loggers require wide band O2 sensors. Narrow band (Digital) switch on and off about stoichiometry and useless for a data logger. So unless you weld in 2 more bungs in your exhaust, you can't use both. Lastly, any changes you make at low speed to the fuel maps will only be used when NOT in closed loop mode. Useless!

Use the real race ECM and factory software yourself. There is no comparison. You are misinformed, closed loop operation is locked out on the real race ECM. It has to be.

Don't believe me, I don't care Call IDS and ask!

No need to get in a(nother) tuning theory argument: ( Just trying to clarify, because your info is full of incorrect statements:

"Data loggers require wide band O2 sensors."
No. A datalogger will log any data you give it.
Perhaps you meant to say the tuning software?
Still No. TunerPro, ECMSpy are by FAR the most common ones used for Buells, and both will take NB O2 data.
Or maybe you meant to say Mega Log Viewer?
Still No. It will also use the NB O2 signal just as easy as it will use a WB signal to build a map from its algorithm.

"Narrow band (Digital) switch on and off about stoichiometry and useless for a data logger."
No, not "useless". Still assuming you mean 'tuning program' not "datalogger". The Buell ECM uses a NB sensor for correction value for AFV, why would you think it's "useless" for rich/lean info?

"So unless you weld in 2 more bungs in your exhaust, you can't use both."
No.
1) Any WB O2 datalogger I've seen has a NB sensor emulator FOR THIS REASON. So replace the stock NB sensor in the bung and, done.
2) Even though they can do both simultaneously, you shouldn't use CL while datalogging (for fuel map mods).
3) So, no need a second bung. What the heck to you need a third bung for?

"Lastly, any changes you make at low speed to the fuel maps will only be used when NOT in closed loop mode"
Of course, because ANY changes you are making are the Open Loop fuel map. ONLY. CL operation is a target map, for stoic, because by definition... CL is for 'part throttle cruise', NOT using the fuel cells in the Open Loop map*.

"Use the real race ECM and factory software yourself."
What is this "factory software" you keep talking about? Are you referring to this part (y1052.08ah) LOL.
Do you mean BUE3D firmware? Thats firmware.

"closed loop operation is locked out on the real race ECM. It has to be."
NO. The Buell/EBR "RACE ECM" has CL functionality turned on as purchased from the Buell/EBR factory. Sure, CL operation should be turned off for a fully-never-streeted-race-bike because CL is wholly unnecessary in a race bike. but no need to have it "locked out".
Why do you think "It has to be?"

Don't believe me, I don't care Call IDS and ask!
IDS is not Buell or EBR Maybe thats your confusion? IDS worked with Buell/EBR, but they can sell whatever they want. Not as "factory" though.

Sorry SteveL, I don't mean to be argumentative. You're obviously new to tuning yourself and your misunderstanding of the tuning process could confuse the OP. He just wants a bit better map by putting his stock map through MLV. Its an easy process once you get it done the first time. Give it a shot and report back here. Or just buy one plug-n-play from IDS

To be crystal clear... Yes, a WB sensor is much better to datalog with and build a good tune quickly because it can tell the tuning algorithm how MUCH to make a change. A NB O2 sensor can also be used to get a satisfactory fuel map with repeated testing.

TL;DR
Sorry for the wormhole. None of this has to do with the OP's question. Sorry.

*Oversimplification warning! IMO, YMMV, just the basics here

Im pretty sure I have a decent idea of what I'm doing now with getting the datalog to MLV.

I know that ECMspy isn't not the best tool for this. I am new to tuning maps myself so I was wanting to get a good idea of the basic concept of it all before going head first into it. Maybe I'm wrong going about it that way but I have the tools in front of me so I'm going to try and use them.

Currently I'm waiting on my exhaust to get here before I can do anything with the bike.

I'll be sure to respond to y'all with how it goes.

Thank you for the support!!

Awesome. post up how you're doing

Playing around tuning can be fun but make sure to keep a good tune handy for those days when you just wanna ride: )

Since there are so many tunes already built for the common airbox, exhaust mods, you should have a good starting point available before you get to mod for preferences, like engine braking or cold start.

enjoy!

Well I take back what I said earlier.

I know how to make a log and get it to megalogviewer but I cannot for the life of me get any further.

The VE analyse stays grayed out and when I do press it it just says that it needs AFR or Lambda, TPS, and RPM.

I don't know exactly what that means.

If someone could please help me I would really appreciate it. I'd be willing to pay you for your time as I know it's valuable if you are knowledgeable in this.

Thank you very much

Ive included a picture of what I'm seeing.
