I have bought an EBR front brake rotor and mounting kit off Ebay for an EBR 1190, The kit does not have the copper washers and so I need to know the size I need, anyone know or have a kit they could measure please?

Cheers
Steve

What was the kit number you bought?

It did not come with the kit number or instructions, I think it is the kit for the EBR bikes, not the 1125 kit.

If it's the 1190 kit it will not have the copper washers. Should be the bolt, belville washer, flat washer, rotor bushing and the top hat washer. The top hat washer and copper washer are one piece on the 1190 kit, it's about the same thickness as the 1125 kit, although I don't have them in hand right at the moment. I think I have maybe 7 or 8 sets at home.

It would look like this set.

The pic below is the 1125 kit. It *does* have the copper washer in it.

I also have these, but they're a little harder to obtain.

Many thanks D adams, I have the EBR version without the copper washers, If I understand correctly the copper washer and the washer part of the top hat together are the same thickness as the washer part of the EBR top hat, in which case I should be able to use this kit on my 1125?

Not without machining down the rotor mounting surface on the 1125 wheel. The 1190 kit will not sit flush against the wheel correctly to transfer heat away from the rotor.

Really appreciate your help, if anyone could measure the copper washer sometime and let me know the sizes that would be great.

Cheers

Steve

Total stack thickness is approximately .380"
The copper shims are roughly .032" to .034" so there is some variance between them.

The problem will be the top hat bushing. It's .060" thickness in the stack, but the copper washer sits on top of it (flush) and the top hat is smaller diameter than the EBR 1190 piece. It sits in the recess that's machined into the 1125 wheel where the 1190 is not recessed and is totally flat all the way across the mounting boss.

Buell wheel mounting boss.

EBR 1190 wheel mounting boss.

Brilliant, thanks for all the information. I have ordered some copper washers and will machine down the top hat to fit and see if I can make this work, if not I will use the standard fitting setup.

Just a heads up about something to consider and verify. If machining material off the mounting bosses, you're going to want to be sure that the rotational centerline of the brake disc is aligned with the centerline of the brake caliper.
You don't want to torque the brake disc to the side as you apply the brakes.

Yes, I will be checking that carefully, at the moment I only intend to reduce the diameter of the top hat so the stack height will remain the same.

Yeah - definitely find the rotor position and its relation to centerline. Those wheels while very similar have some notable differences. Check the position of the rotor mounting as cast into the rim - on the EBR it’s mounted centered on a spoke while on the Buell it’s centered between the spokes.

D adams, I think I just realized what you mean about the 1125 top hat, is it .380 high including the base?

The total stack height (uncompressed) is .380" roughly.

The 1125 parts would be the top hat, copper washer, drive bushing, flat washer and belleville washer.

1190 parts are top hat, drive bushing, flat washer and belleville washer.

Total stack height is roughly the same between them, although I didn't measure the 1190 stack. I can check it tonight when I get home from work and after a trip the the machine shop to lay out some parts for fabrication later on.

Thanks, I have looked at this today and the only way to get it to work is to use the kit as is, no additional copper washer and the insert in the wheel in place, as EBR do not do it this way there must be a reason not to do so, possibly not enough heat transfer. I have looked for the EBR fitting kit for the 1125 but EBR are out of stock and St Pauls want $120.00 shipping so I have ordered the stock mounting parts.

Unless, possibly, I fit the copper washer against the wheel first and then the top hat and the rest of the stack, I think I will try that just to see if it all lines up while I wait for the original 1125 parts.

+1 on what TribalReaper said.

I called EBR directly and she told me "we have all the stuff in the back, just haven't had time to put kits together. Thats why they are 'backordered' on our site."

I ordered and 2 days later they were shipped to me: )

Thanks for the confirmation Shaggin, I will need to check they will deliver abroad as EBR stopped doing so before they ceased trading.

I did a trial fit today and D_adams was spot on, machining the wheel would be needed to use the EBR mounting kit, the only parts I can use are the drive bushings, even the bolts are different.

The stock parts came in today and I have fitted the EBR rotor, just a FYI for anyone who is going to remove the rotor five of the six springs on mine where corroded in place and had to be pulled out which took a while and then the holes had to be cleaned up with a 5.5mm drill, with the benefit of hind sight it probably would have been a good idea to soak them with releasing fluid over night. I put a small amount of anti seize copper grease on the new springs.
