Bought my 09 1125R a few months ago with the Barker's/EBR ECM combo on it. What can I say, it sounds and performs great! I just don't like the look of how it sits under the bike...anyone else?

I've always been a person who likes variety when it comes to looks and sounds of exhaust. I'm content with the Barker's sound I guess, but want to see what other setups sound/feel like. I've contemplated selling my combo to purchase Dean's RT-3 combo. Thinking more custom though...at the very least moving the Barker's canister more forward and adding a nice looking tip for it, LOL.

What are your thoughts on:

1. Keeping EBR ECM (tuned for Barker's) and a DIY bullet muffler/tip set-up - Will running a different muffler than the Barker's make it run like complete dookie or will it be fine?

2. Sell Barker's/EBR ECM combo and buy a KEDA RT-3 combo?

3. Keep current setup with moving the muffler forward a bit and adding a sweet tip?

4. Quit crying and just ride the dang thing!?

Right, many know the Barker's is at the top of the list. I don't want to screw up a good thing here, just looking for something "different".

I commute and weekend ride it. I don't track it and my spirited riding isn't even close to on par with some of you knee sliders, LOL. So, a little more raw sound and a look more pleasing to the eye is what I'm after.

I HAVE taken notice to that megaphone shaped section and wondered why? But then I see most other exhausts made for our bikes and they just run a straight single diameter pipe to whatever muffler.

One of the things I like about most of the aftermarket pipes is the ground clearance. A buddy had a CES pipe on his 1125CR and bottomed out on the pipe. That pipe sits below the motor rather than having the mid-pipe below the motor and the pipe elevated a bit.

Good point, but I don't have any ground clearance issues even with my fairing belly pan hanging below the exhaust. It has barely scraped on steep ramps into trailers though.

Anyone know where I can score a slip on "Y" pipe or mid pipe? Just the "Y" section off the header pipes.

If I could get a decent amount for my current combo, I'd more than likely buy Dean's RT-3 combo as stated above. I don't think he's willing to sell just bits and pieces now, would he?? Like a "Y" pipe

It comes down to how much I'm going to be coming out of pocket in the end I guess. A totally custom look that I personally put together has me thinking too...

I just wanted to hear some of the thoughts you all have. Keep them coming.

I have the Barker's and Race ECM. I wasn't crazy about the megaphone portion, but from what I understand this is the reason it performs so well. Being a function over form kinda guy, I got over the looks really quick.

My suggestion is to just ride the thing as it.

PS, you want MORE sound than the Barker's delivers? Anything louder than the Barkers would definitely put you into the A-hole category (and many would say the Barkers is too loud for the street.) IMHO of course.

The only reason I put up with the noise is the 15 HP bump and absolutely sweet torque curve. Performance-wise if you change from the Barkers/Race ECM is pretty much downhill from there....keep that in mind as well.

I had the Barker on my 1125CR but replaced it with a Carbon Jardine. The Barker was a bit loud and made my ears ring even with earplugs in. The Jardine has a better sound in my opinion and looks better since my bike is black with red accents and the Jardine is CF with red letters. I haven't noticed much of a performance difference. I get lots of comments at the track. People are not sure what the bike is but love the sound!

Nuts4mc - Thanks, looking to spend minimal money for a different setup.

Fresnobuell - I appreciate your input. Keep in mind I’m coming off of a 1977 Kawasaki KZ900 with a 4-1 Vance & Hines megaphone with no baffle. Thing sounded gorgeous. LOUD but gorgeous. I wouldn’t say LOUD = A-hole category. Riding like an A-hole puts you in the A-hole category. Loud pipes saves lives right? Lol. I never said I wanted louder though. I just want a different sound and look.

For the type of riding I do, the minimal difference in performance between the different exhaust systems would be negligible.

I really do appreciate the inputs guys. So for now I guess I’ll leave it alone...but that bug will come back around again soon. Haha

So at what point did the Barker make more power, enough so to qualify it as a win?

Yeah, it's splitting hairs here, but with corrected tuning from EBR on *their* dyno, mine made 143.1 hp, the full race system (Tullet) made 145.

Dang they all add a bunch of hp over stock.
Anyone have dB differences between the pipes?
I’d love to weld up my own pipe but I know There is plenty of testing that goes into them and I appreciate What others have already done. I really can’t justify go through the effort for a exhaust that would start out like the FMF one shows and stay there haha
Boom_fist I really like the additional bodywork you have on your bike it looks good.

with that belly fairing the exhaust is 90% hidden away.

If you like the sound and power - don't touch anything. Be bloody hard to change the look of something you can't see

Dean - Thanks for those graphs. Have any of your RT-1’s laying around you’re looking to sell!? Is the first YouTube video in your profile a RT-1? I love that sound.

Shawn - Thanks man, I bought the bike with the fairings and I like them a lot, but I’m looking for original pods to swap back and forth as well.

Neil - What I forgot to mention is that I plan on swapping back and forth to the original pods and the fairings. So I want an exhaust that would look good for both applications.

Don’t bash me too hard, as I’m not an exhaust expert, but would a chambered bullet muffler from like Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or SLP be too slap-happy-jimmy-rigged?? Would it perform like complete crap? What diameter piping would be ideal? 2 1/2”?

For Looks Alone, Dean His The Win.
I Think The RT4 Is His Best Looking Model.

I took a different approach with the shootout spreadsheet. I put it in MS Access 2003. The MAX And Average Queries Were On:
HP, And Torque between RPM Ranges...
ex. RPM >=4000 And <=6000

are you a database person? the mdb is free.
message me.

I totally agree with the statement that the rider is ultimately in control of the volume. We can all tell someone on a bike with a louder pipe that is riding in a considerate manner and those D-bags who are trying to make as much noise as humanly possible. Good on you an everyone that falls in the former category!

And as far as the pipe comparo, I was going to say the Barkers produces more torque at a lower RPM. DannyBuell seems to have captured this in his Access analysis...

After we did this muffler shootout I acquired an 1125-- a test mule from Buell with 2 O2 bungs and egt ports. It came with a race map from them. I had a Dynojet PC-V and wanted to try some mapping. IIRC we still had the D&D, a Jardine, and a Drummer.I tuned them all with the PC-V and the stock muffler made more HP than the D&D and the Jardine. I did each cylinder individually.

Thanks for all the input. From what I'm hearing, the Barker's is hard to beat overall performance wise with Dean's RT-3 very close behind.

I guess I'll keep the current set-up for now and revisit this again during the winter when I can mess with the exhaust off the bike.

How could you not like this one? Potentially 143+ hp at the wheel, torque for days and sounds exactly like one of the DSB race bikes just like Eslick raced at Daytona.

Dean, that's what I'm saying! If I didn't already have the Barker's, I'd have one of yours ASAP! That thing is beautiful! I'm debating selling this setup this winter and buying yours brother!

It comes down to the money right now...I had to replace a rear tire and I just spent a good chunk on a complete XB12X subframe off of a member on here or I'd be all over one of your kits man! I'll be in touch...

Didn't make this setup until earlier this year. No real name/model yet, it's just an oval body but based on the RT-3. Can is a little shorter, but has the same volume as the original factory race exhaust. Dimensionally, it's the same. It can be found on the website if you hunt for it a little.

That looks nice. Is the 143 HP figure derived from a personal dyno session and not related to the Exhaust SHootout?

The final hp/tq numbers came direct from EBR in March of 2011. It took about 9 months to get it on the dyno and dialed in, they had limited personnel at the time. 143.1 hp, 79 ft/lbs and it was essentially flat as a pancake from 5k to 10.5k rpm, might have been a 5 ft/lb rise/drop across that range.
Just for comparison, stock was 129 hp and 69 ft/lbs.

For a rough comparison, my 1st 1190 RX made 162 hp stock and about 84 ft/lbs. Tuned with an exhaust it was 179/95.
