I've been shopping around for a nice tank bag/tail bag/saddle bag option for the 1125 and I was about to pull the trigger on a used set of Cortech 2.0 bags, until I came up with an idea...

I'm all about fabricating things as long as it's not a "jerry-rigging-safety-hazard". I started digging around in the pile of gear I had from my military days and my nuclear security days. Mind you, this cost ZERO monies $$$$$ - in the end and I think it actually looks pretty sweet.

The great part is, it's interchangeable with the MOLLE system to swap bags to your liking. I can explain details of how I rigged it up if anyone is interested.

Here are the pics....flame away!

-Tom

So, this is the main piece that the pouches attach to:

I cut off all the straps and used the long rectangle piece as the main body. The ends overlapped about 2"-3" inches inside of the airbox cover. I hot-glued 1/4" foam pad on the underside to save the paint. The elastic string is what keeps tension on the front and rear using the factory bolts. I looped the elastic string to the underside of the cover.

I have been looking for a tank bang and this thing looks awesome! I don't have much of my old military stuff but I will look around for some of the stuff.
Really like the ingenuity!

Thanks Shawn!

I have another main chest rig piece that I'm contemplating on mimicking to either sell on here or use for a saddle bag type set-up?? Not sure yet...

Either way, it was fun making it and it was FREE. Very practical and tacti-cool. Haha

Great post!

Ive got the Buell tank bag, but sometimes it's just too big, I dont want it.

Ive been thinking about how easy it'd be to buy 3 sets of plastic clips and making my own bag that is more flat. I like what youve done here a lot!

Youre giving me some great ideas, brother!

Thanks, Mr. Owens!

Exactly, I wanted a low profile bag just to hold some essentials. That’s what I love most about it - it’s versatility. Throw a bigger bag on it when the need arises.

That’s what it’s all about! I didn’t invent this, but came up with my own idea for others to build off of as they choose.

Post yours up when you do it! You might give me an idea in return!

Never had a tank bag, but I love my tail bag--mainly because it's big enough to be useful and I don't notice it at all when riding.

Nice to have some storage options on our bikes....

This little project has given me another idea for a tail bag to flow with the tank bag. It should be here this weekend, hopefully. I’ll post pics with the whole set-up once it arrives.

Where are you buying your bags to use?

Thought about going to a gun show this weekend that is in town, but I doubt I'll find an inexpensive bag to use

The only thing I’ve purchased out of this whole project has been the tail bag ($16) here:

Everything else I’ve accumulated over the years.

It came in today. It's almost like this little bag was made for the rear seat. Again, I didn't want something too big. I don't do any really long distance trips...yet. Just wanted some more storage space.

I'm happy to answer any questions. Sorry for all the pics! I like to be detailed! LOL ***Don't mind the missing fairings...just changed the oil***

Used elastic strings again for this bag. What's really cool is that the little velcro strap on the underside of the bag is lined up PERFECT with the seat grab handle. Then the elastic string is there for tension. I'm happy with the outcome.

Now you need to add some mag and frag pouches.

And some mags and frags.

Sadly, Amazon doesn’t stock frags?? Maybe eBay??

Are you sure they don’t?
Tail bag looks great, it is a set of bags. I may Steal your idea now if my mom didn’t live 1200 miles away she could sew it all together.

Put the new set-up to the test with a 250 mile round trip today to the Eastern Shore. Had a slight chance of rain in the forecast so I rolled up my rain liner and a pair of weather proof pants and fit them into the tail bag. Stuffed some tools and chargers in to the other pouches.

Man, I can’t wait to do the handle bar swap for a better riding position. A little sore, haha.

Picked up a piece of metal in the rear tire as well, but it held air until I got home and removed it. Time for a new rear tire now.

Well done. Perfect for the small "gotta-haves" while riding.

I'm going to steal this tail bag idea this weekend.
Thanks for the pics, this will be very easy to recreate.

Nice work.

I think next time I'll go with a tail bag vs tank or maybe a small tank bag.
I had a large one and noticed that the decals were sliding down the cover from all the heat. Guess I could always remove the decals as another option because I used the hell out of that large bag.
