The nut embedded in the subframe is stripped out, so one of the bolts holding on the seat can't get any purchase.

The threads appear to be inside the square tubing frame, so I don't think there's a way to get in there with another nut.

What are my options? It's not great having my seat move around.

Nutsert; it's like a hollow, threaded rivet; goes into the hole and is expanded using the installation tool. This one's on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Muzata-Riveter-Thread-Rivet ing-Included/dp/B01M59GTH8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid= 1521220996&sr=8-5&keywords=nutsert+kit

Thanks! Lots of bad reviews on that one. Also, I can't really tell from the pictures if the rivets are threaded

Someday it will be my turn to need this. Do you have pictures of the repair?

Duanelr, I just ordered it. I'll take pictures and post when I do the repair.

Get a quick release seat pin kit.
then you won't have to keep screwing in and out every time.

Make a quick release seat pin kit,you need a hacksaw, drill, vice,a pin to fit the hole you drill 1/8 works and a bolt that fits and a nut.Easy

Mhpalin, I saw a walkthrough of how to make one on another forum, but figured the rivet gun would be cheaper than a hacksaw and vice, which I still haven't added to my tool collection.

Good suggestion!

The frame uses nutserts so replacing one is the way to go. Nutserts are pretty handy so you'll probably find some uses now that you have the tool handy.

Mine were a little messed up but I was lucky and just retapped it and installed the pins.

Al used to sell a seat pin kit and he did a batch for some of us a few months ago. Of course now that I have it installed I probably won't need to take the seat off.

Robertl, how did you remove the existing nutsert?

I drilled out most of it, then it started spinning. I couldn't pry it out b/c it flared out inside the frame. I ended up pushing it in the from, squeezing some glue on it and using a magnet to get it out of the way and gluing it to the inside of the frame to keep it from rattling.

Pics to come

Never had to remove one on a motorcycle; otherwise, usually drill and/or use a dremel.

I'd expect your solution will work also. : )

Robertl

It did, I went for a 250 mile ride yesterday and didn't hear any rattling from the old nutsert I glued to the inside of the frame.

Pics are forthcoming

These tools and inserts come in SAE and Metric sizes and the rivnuts come in different styles, lengths and alloys. Even the tools are quite varied. Trying to set a stainless steel rivnut with a manual tool will require the strength of superman. For the tougher alloys, a air over hydraulic setter is required. I have acquired all these tools over the years and keep most rivnut sizes in differing alloys in stock.
