My 1125R has been getting harder and harder to start after it's been sitting cold for any amount of time (doesn't seem to matter if its hours or weeks).

I just have to crank and crank and crank. Then I'll hear a pop but it won't catch, crank some more and eventually it'll fire up and run just fine.

Warm starts do not seem to exhibit this behavior.

Is it likely this is the fuel pump not priming the injection system sufficiently? Or is there something else I can check?

It's got about 34k miles on it. Race ECM. As far as I know it's the original fuel pump.

how cold is cold? (32degF ?)
how old is the battery? ( might be time for a new one)
how tight are the battery connections?
how old/weight is the oil?
how old is the gas in the tank?
today's gasoline often has alcohol in it which can absorb water (gas sitting for awhile will cause the water to settle to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pick up is located)...try some gas additive to "clean out" the water in the gas (Seafoam/Chevron Techron)

"Cold" can be anywhere from fifties (i.e., I ride the bike to work and it sits for nine hours) down to single digits (bike in my shed sitting for two weeks). Doesn't seem to make any difference.

I don't know how old the battery is. I have been keeping it on a tender, and the engine does not seem to be cranking abnormally slowly, for what that's worth.

Have not checked battery connections, but will.

Not sure about the oil, as I haven't changed it yet myself (I only got the bike in October). I usually use 15w-40 diesel oil in motorcycles, though -- but come to think of it, the Rotax is a different beast than I'm used to, so I'll research that.

The gas is about a month old, but I have been experiencing this problem even with brand-new premium gas.

Ah, I will try some additive. I didn't think about that.

Simple stuff first, when was it last serviced, Oil, air filter and spark plugs?

Seafoam is always a good idea, but you might want to enter Diagnostic mode on the IC, and check the fuel pressure, both static and with the engine running at 4000 rpm.

If you donít have the manuals, the pressure should be around 550 KPA with the engine off, and around 420-440 KPA with it running at 4000 rpm. (IIRC)
