Bought an 1125R off of a friend, and fellow badwebber, about a year ago.
He crashed it down the side of a mountain.

Obviously it ran when crashed, but hasnt been started since. Its been about 3 or 4 years now.

So I picked up a new battery at HD yesterday, put it in my street bike and it works fine.

But when I put it on this bike NOTHING.

Ive asked before - there is no cluster hooked up, but folks have said they'll run without one.
Ive checked all the fuses I can think of (there really is just the one box, right?) and all look good.

Everything seems to be plugged up.
There is no subframe currently on the bike, so sensors etc arent attached to the subframe like normal.

But what am I missing?

Key was broken off inside of ignition during crash, but its in there and I can put a screwdriver in the slot and it'll turn etc.

I dont know what I can do at this point, I need yalls expert help

check power thru the headlight fuse.
Remember you need the headlight fuse to run the starter.

You can pull that fuse and the motor will stay running but need it to run starter.

Where is said fuse?
I didnt mention it, but there isnt a headlight on it right now - damaged in the crash. Could that be the issue?

well Will, you may have hit the nail on the head here.

Went out to the garage to check those wires, as well as the fuse for the lights (which was fine), and what did I discover - the ignition wires are hooked up to NOTHING.
Four wires (with little metal ends) just dangling there. Had never even though about that before, just overlooked it.

So now the issue is - where do they go?
All wiring to the front of the bike is there, just not sure what plugs in where.

As I said, these wires each have a little metal connector thing on them, but I dont know which one plugs where
HELP!!!!

Any chance those wires came off the ignition switch? Common failure for a breakage there. A picture is worth a thousand words...

You can either, try and find out what wire goes where or, buy a new one, https://shop.newcastlehd.com/part/y072402a8
or get one on E Bay.

I have a spare ignition with the broken wires like Bubba's, I'll have to see if I can figure out which wire is which pin. From there it should be as simple as putting a new connector on and connecting it. It probably is in the electrical manual too

the rest of the plug? still plugged in perhaps?
if you were trying to repair w/ the old plug.. the red wires would be interchangeable?
when I did my repair.. I bought a replacement ignition switch off ebay. (I'm bad about that.)
I haven't used it.
I bet I could detect the location of the other 2 wires if one was trying to rebuild the plug

edit: oops, Froggy's on it : ).. just saw it; I should read better

Bubba - I went out to garage tonight.
So the four wires Im holding in the pic (sorry for size!) have pulled out of the square plug that is in your picture.

So now its about where do each go in the plug, and the plug itself is still connected to the wiring harness.

I see Froggys post, I will try to pull back some coating to figure out colors of wires. I looked, briefly, last night and didnt see the same colors, but I was in a hurry and will take more time today!

it'll should be easy to figure.. all you need is a pic of the plug w/ the wire positions identified.
I can get one.. but I'm currently at work. this afternoon maybe

Yall have been great.

So i pushed the pins back into the socket, plugged it up and I could hear stuff moving - electrical stuff.

Hit the start button ANNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD nothing. Idiot me, I forgot to think about the start button plug ; )
So plugged that up and its TRYING to crank over.

Its been sitting 3 or 4 years now, so its not going to just fire right up, I know.
But I cant put fresh gas in because I dont have a key...

So thats the next thing - how to add gas since I cant open up the cap?

ALSO
If youre sitting in the riders seat, looking down at the throttlebodies - looks like there is a vacuum off the throttle side/right side. Theres nothing there now. There is an opening, and as I hit the ignition I can see a little spiderweb sucking towards it.

What is it and what to do with it?
I put my finger over and nothing was different.

No turn-over tonight, but she's trying!

you may be looking at the IAC (Idle Air Control) "tube" - should be a rubber hose sticking up (appox .25-.375") into the "rubber base" that seals the throttle bodies to the base of air box. There is no "adjustable mechanical stop" for the butterflys and idle speed...at idle the butterflys are completely closed...air is introduced into the intake stream by a valve controlled by the ECM ( the ECM controls idle speed)...the air supply for that valve is a rubber tube ( 90 deg bend in it...I think) that protrudes up into the air box....the tube is famous for fouling up the throttle linkage on the right side (below the big rubber seal)...it's important to get that tube up and away from the throttle linkage...if you find/replace the tube...check your throttle action( with the air box/air cleaner off so you watch the butterflys) ...a tube that slips and falls down into the linkage will cause you grief and is often difficult to trouble shoot.

find the breather tube for the gas tank...if there is no check valve in the circuit...you may be able to add gas to the tank through the tube...hth

The throttlebodies are working fine, the airbox is pulled off so I can see the butterflies opening when I twist the throttle.

But I'll attach a hose to that opening, and it totally makes sense, now, why it was sucking in air when hitting the start switch.
THANK YOU!

Yall have been so great on here, hopefully, eventually, this thing will fire on over.

guess I missed the part about the broken key
think I'd bump the priority up on that issue.
either get that key out somehow .. make a copy?
or just order the replacement set like I did:
- Ignition + Gas Cap + Lock set for rear cowl w/ matching keys
found mine on ebay. if you're diligent, I suspect you'll find one too.
Gotta get that resolved sooner or later anyways.

Yeah Im probably going to get that from a guy on here
BUT, would still have the issue of removing old cap

I didnt mess with it any today, other than making sure it was on the trickle charger

I'll try to tinker with it more tomorrow

Once I confirm the engine is good then I can start moving forward with an idea I have for it

If you will be very calm, take your time, use some pieces off a large safety pin and bend to some of the shapes shown, you will succeed quite well. You must train your eye to be keen and put on your 'artful' hat. Watch this at least 4 times and then take a day to think it through.

So Ive opened the vent tube to the right of the gas fill and put some fuel in there - still nothing. Maybe I didnt put enough in, I dont know.

I do know that I bought a battery and put fresh gas in my other 1125R and she fired up.

Oil change on the street bike soon, and I'll keep trying to get this project engine running.
