Yes I realize that the proper thing to do is to just replace my tire but it is the end of the riding season and I don't want to do that until she is put away for the winter. I picked up a nail in my rear Dunlop Q3 which has not leaked in about 100 miles and the nail head is wearing reasonably slowly as it is not in the primary wear strip area. I do have a plug kit but am pretty convinced that I am better off to just leave the nail in until I replace it. Curious to hear from anyone with similar experience in this area?

If the plug takes then go for it. I've had some punctures that a plug wouldn't hold air so I couldn't even try to run it, but tires I've ran plugged had the plug outlast the tire.

Plugs typically work just fine, but I wouldn't ride with one for extended durations. Plug it, ride it to the nearest service shop and get a proper patch job. Cheaper than buying a new tire, safer than running a plug.

Well the decision was made for me. I intended to ride into work last Friday, maybe the last 70F day in Northern Ohio for a while, and the tire was flat. I will probably put a plug in it in hopes of another good day before I order my replacement. I wish I could unsee that failed plug pic!

Don't plug, take to tire shop and let them put an inside patch...
