I've always hated how high the fairing sits on the 1125r. I came across a commercial bracket to lower it, made of steel, so I made one out of 1/8" sheet aluminum.

Dropped 1.5", moved forward about and inch.
Feels solid as a rock. Figuring out how to make two bends that close together with a (harbor freight) metal brake was interesting.

And you can see the janky job I'm doing trying to replicate the EBR airbox cover.

It still sits a little too high. Could have dropped another 1/4" or so. But it lines up with the radiator pod lines a little better now.

Well done on really making your bike yours.

How much does this lower the front?
Im curious how much less wind protection it gives, and if thats part of the reason for the height it was at from the factory.

I say this respectfully, I can not tell a difference between lowered and not-lowered.

The first time I saw a lowered 1125r fairing was in a youtube vid called "1125r front fairing mod (lowered)". I also couldn't tell by looking.

But now that I see it in person, it looks so much better.

If you look at the stock setup, the gap between the pods and the fairing is greater, and the contour lines on the bottom of the fairing sit backwards of the pods.

If I'd made it 3/8" lower it would be just about perfect.

Nah...3/8" (.375) would be just a hair too much. I think .369" would be just right.

in fact it should be metric. I'll have to settle for 9 mm.

I can't tell a difference.

I even switched back to my old black windscreen which looks way sweeter. I'll switch back to the touring windscreen next time I take it on a long trip.

The bike has sat for pretty much the last 2 years without being ridden (having kids and a tight budget seems to do that). Trying to knock the dust off and get back into it. I forgot how much I loved riding, this bike in particular.

How low can you go?

Evidently, until the fairing is resting on the pods. I'm not willing to start clearancing plastic yet....

I think the ultimate goal is:

It isn't the front fairing that's the problem. It is the ugly, very ugly pods. Not only do they look out of place, they direct all the waste radiator heat to the fuel tank. The radiators must be repositioned or replaced to direct the waste heat outboard, just like every other water cooled sport bike made.

Now, the last photo, that's the right answer. Make that fairing and I'll be the first to buy one.

The fairing is a little bit of a problem. It's huge, and too tall, and my friends tell me it looks like something from Predator vs Alien.

The pods are a problem. I mean, they're actually designed really well for what they are. They're radiator shrouds that double as affordable crash pucks.

But, they are ugly. I believe I remember reading that HDMC would not permit visible radiators so Erik and elves were forced to get creative. Which they did, but it doesn't mean they're not ugly.

They also blow hot air right in front of the intake duct. Which is also a problem. Reversing the airflow, like you said, is a major step in the right direction.

From time to time I pull of the radiator pods and mock-up fairings with cardboard... I wish there was a cheaper way to play with body fabrication. Fiberglass, while at the cheaper end of fabrication materials, becomes expensive in a hurry. And sanding fiberglass and bondo is time consuming.

Yes that yellow bike is sweet! I like the lowered fairing you did, it helps the look tremendously.

It was easier for me to just start with an EBR airbox and it didn't take much to make it fit the STT

Thats a Hotbodies piece (fit like crap) you'd be better off starting with a factory one.

That looks great! Much better than the original airbox cover. I love your bike!

What are you running for saddlebags? Collapsable/stowable?

I should have just bought an EBR piece off ebay. I've wasted more time and money trying to make one from scratch.

Thanks! Thats a roll up tool pouch a good friend made for me

Heres an earlier pic with just the Buell tailbag on it and a different seat I made. I have some small expandable soft bags I got from Cyclegear I like a lot!
I'll look for a pic with them on.
I went about 3500 miles in a month last summer all over the PNW and never even had to expand them

Nice. I had a local guy in Puyallup WA make my seat for me. He made it thick and cushy with progressive foam and I can ride all day in comfort. I think I paid him $100, which is cheaper and probably more comfortable than a commercial aftermarket seat.

I've never made a seat/saddle but I'd like to someday.

Honestly pretty easy and I'm no pro for sure! I say go for it
These are MotoCentric. Cheap and totally sturdy, I'm very happy with them and their tank bag that has a 3L camelback in it too

I'll quit filling your thread with my pics now, lol

Keep posting how the 1125 turns out

Did you make that seat?

I like the hard lines. It looks sharp.

What's the LED strip above the tail light? Is it a stick-on?

I just foamed and shaped a stock seat base, then used marine vinyl that looked like carbon fiber to cover it.
Heres me covering the other banana seat:
https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?53730 -Cooter-does-upholstery!&highlight=upholstery

Me too! I think it updates the styling nicely: )

Just e-bay stick on LED's for running lights and T/S. The stock light is the brake light 'only' while I'm shaping a tail piece to inset a nicer led strip and shave the stock light off completely.

The 1125's beauty lies in the fact that it IS different.

If I wanted to look like the rest of the repli-racer crowd at the Starbucks on Saturday mornings, I would buy a Japanese bike.

Even after 10 years with the R, I still think it's an incredible motorcycle if it's ridden as intended. A canyon carver that detests traffic. No problem, I do too.

And I STILL catch myself staring at it with googly eyes at times.

Sure, I could get another bike and at my age, I probably SHOULD get another sportbike before I am forced to move to upright nakeds, but damn I love the 1125R with all it's "deficiencies". YMMV.

Well it still needs some more wet sanding but I finally got back to work on the airbox.
Sharp, well defined lines look better I think.

I see guys walking close around my 1125 looking puzzled. I pulled the Buell labels off the airbox years ago. Some don't recognize the name when I tell them. Older guys usually know it

I don't know what happened to Badweb for the last few days, I was having withdrawals.

Just playing with photoshop...
Your choice of either an RX fairing, or a B2 fairing. Of course the RX is just beautiful.

I'd love to reverse the radiator airflow and add a full fairing.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I love the wizard sleeves!

But maybe that's because the CR headlight assembly is so much sexier than the R fairing ; )
