Getting settled in to our new home after retiring from the Marines... pulling some Buells from the storage and looks like the little 1125R has a little blep on the gauge. Is this an entire part to replace, or just the screen cover or am I totally feekd here?

what do i need to replace now?

Thanks for any help guys.

The cluster can be disassembled and the lens replaced, but the problem is that the lens is not available separately, you would have to buy a whole cluster.

Take the broken lens out then buy a small square of thin plexiglass and cut it yourself. Much cheaper

This sucks.

Question: If I replace the cluster, will I lose my mileage and need to amend my title?

I guess I'll need to track down a cluster from a wreck and replace the lens. I'll post if I find parts with a how-to.

A brand new cluster will pull mileage from the ECM. They share that information.
However if you source a used cluster, there will be a vin mismatch between the parts, and the cluster will show a VIN error.

Just replaced my cluster. It was 300 dollars--ish.
For fun I tried taking apart my old one, just to see how easy it would have been. Fsck that. I made the right decision. It was like trying to break open a bowling ball. Ya, possible, but not worth it. Plus the added functionality of the new cluster was a plus.

How do you correct that VIN error?

No correcting it as far as I know--I just replaced mine, too. I took time-stamped pictures of the before and after mileage for my records and that's the best I can do.

It'll still run and everything with the VIN error, right?
Does it just give you a warning on the dash or what?

I put previously used displays on both of my 1125s.
I bought one of the Ronin takeoffs from the dealer that was selling them on EBay, put that on my '09, , and put the one I took off my '09 on my '08.

Neither showed any errors. The new takeoff showed 3 miles when installed on the '09 CR with 9,100 miles on it.
The one that came off of that bike went on the '08 with almost 18,000 miles, but it showed the 9,100 miles the other bike had.

The IC that I took off the '09 had version 6.1 software, the one that replaced it has 6.2.

The one I took off the '08 had version 4.3 I think.

The '09 has a Race Use Only ECM, the '08 has the stock ECM, I believe.

FWIW, I documented the mileage on both bikes with date traceable pictures.
