I have, within the last couple of months, had more fun on my 1125s than I have ever had on a motorcycle...(well, except maybe for that night behind the theater with the bosses girlfriend while seated on the near new '85 ElectraGlide, and being ridden...)

But seriously, pain has been an ongoing problem even since my lumbar fusion surgery last year, and I haven't been doing much other than exercise, physical therapy, and getting regular therapeutic massages.

I really felt motivated to do some work on the R model, as the fuel pump wiring had bit the dust when I changed the shock that came on it (a stock Showa shock with an extra heavy spring on it) but couldn't seem to get past the pain to make any progress.

Against my better judgement, I picked up a bottle of Jack Daniels at the liquor store on the way home one night, had a drink and went to work.

It took a couple of stiff ones, but I combined pieces of two used pumps to make one good one.

Got the bike running, and started playing with it.

We have about 2 and a half miles of one lane paved PRIVATE road around our community, roughly 5 miles from one end to the other and back. Some asphalt in good condition, some in poor, some concrete in good, some poor...

There are some long straight stretches, and some hairpin curves.

I've been riding a Buell long enough to see the guys who wave with their front wheel at 60 MPH, and that sort of thing.

I've been wanting to get involved in some Track Day programs, hoping I might get some professional instruction in how to manage the excess horsepower.

Something always comes up.

At any rate, with a means of dealing with some of the pain onboard, (carefully), I started exploring what the bikes will do.

Anyone who saw one of my first attempts at a strictly crack the throttle wheel stand would have found it hilarious to watch...unless like me, they have major arthritis in their hands and wrists.

There is no free play at all in the throttle of the R.

I got rolling, cranked the RPMs up to around 5K, and whacked it.

The front end went up until the changing angle of my wrists backed off the throttle, then the front end slammed down, my weight came down on my hands, one of which had a death grip on the throttle.

As my wrists are flexible still, the weight on the wrists caused the hands to rotate...and the front end popped back up...and down...and up...and down...I lost count of the repetitions.

All I know is it freakin' hurt!

To make a long and painful story shorter, in spite of the pain, I'm having a freakin' ball!

The first time I managed to lift the front end, then shift to second and keep the front end at about the same elevation through second and into third, was an incredible rush!

I have a used Pingel electric auto-shifter to install, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

And yes, Track Days are still on my list of things to do!

I LOVE my Buells!

Even here, a lot of folks can't understand.
They grew up.

I had a similiar incident. I was touting a guy in a mustang gt one night. He wasnt interested in the challenge. I had the rpms pretty high in 2nd along side him and whacked the throttle. The bike stood up and my feet were hanging off the back end as i pulled on the bars to get my feet back on pegs the throttle would crack open wider the the noid would kick in and slam the front to the ground, but before i could release the throttle the noid would repower the engine again causing all the above to repeat itself. This left me po-going down the road.... i can only imagine the hysteria of the guy in the mustang. I finally regained control and quickly got as far away from the laughing man in the mustang as possible. So, you are not alone my friend...

Nm5150, the previous owner of my CR put 5.1 brake fluid in it.

When I first got the R, the front brake was draggy, and hardly had any lever to it.

I pulled the caliper off, took it apart, and cleaned everything., then put it back together and filled it with Motul 5.1. At the time, I didn't notice much difference, but after putting some miles on it as mentioned above, it started working nearly as well as the front brake on the CR, which is the best I've seen yet.

I can turn my brake fluid into surup in one track day.pads too.No brakes at the end of the day.Castrol makes some brake fluid that is $100.00 a bottle but will last all day.

What fluid are you using? DOT 4 or 5,1?

Castrol React SFR Racing. It is DOT4 but has the highest boiling point of any brake fluid on the market.I believe the heat is what breaks it down. All I know is with good pads I have brakes all day. With other fluids I had my brake lever cranked all the way out at the end of the day.

Good to know. Thanks.

I'll have to go back and check, but I think the Motul 5.1 claims to have a higher boiling point than DOT 4.

Castrol's web site doesn't have a product data sheet for the React SFR.
When you search for it, you get a message telling you to use the 'Comtact Us' link to request the information...

Motul 5.1 has higher wet and dry boiling points that conventional DOT 4, but Castrol claims extreme performance from their React SRF.

If Nm5150's experience is representative, it sounds like the way to go.
