I am in the middle of a complete rebuild of my 1125R. I am needing to replace the main bearings, and need the tool to press out the old ones and press in the new ones. The tool is $512 from EBR and is unavailable through HD. I can't be the first to be replacing the main bearings on a 1125R! Dose any one have access to one or has made a DIY one? My other option is, to bring it to my local Buell dealer and they will do it for a hour labor charge, of $118 a hour. | ||

Those guys have to pay off their tools somehow.  Get it over there and get that part behind you!  | ||

It isn't rocket science. I have made my own, but then I have a machine shop. I make special tools all the time. More importantly, please notice that service bearings are not available for this crankshaft. They ONLY come in standard size. | ||

One more point! Do not throw away the old shells. I will buy them if you want. They will be very difficult to get in the future. The old shells can be re-babitted. | ||

I am a former machinist, but I have no access to a lathe or a mill, hell I don't even own a drill press! I had the starter sprag fail, and sent metal pieces through the oil system, and put some groves in the main bearings, and also clogged the oil spay nozzle for the front piston, causing damage to the wrist pin and piston. I discovered all of this, during the repair of a cam chain issue. |
