Put a current model HD garage door opener module on my 1125. Love it. The current model has 3 wires. One goes to ground, one to a switched 12v and the third, the trigger, to the high beam lead. By switched 12v I mean 12v that is off when the key is off. With the bike running I just trip the headlight switch up/down and that's it. Older HD module has 4 wires and would be difficult to use.

I did the same by just using a regular key fob garage door opener and wiring it to the hi-beam flasher switch.

Interesting approach Terry. I'm surprised it didn't need a 5v regulator (or even just a voltage divider) in there to keep from frying something.

The factory wires were disconnected and remote battery left intact with some heat shrink around it.

I used this same setup on my Firebolt and then on my CR.

It probably comes down to the circuit. Some can take 12v easy peasy. Some circuits would let the magic smoke out.

A couple of extra components could make it safe for any fob. An interesting project.

If the hi beam is just flashed on-off quickly the fob would probably not have time to fry, hopefully. Nice idea. Have you run with hi beams on for a protracted time? That would put some 14 volts on it.

The wires were disconnected from the flasher switch and put heat shrink on them. The other switch was used for hi-beams. I had HID on both bikes so flashing the hi wouldn't do much anyhow.

Doh! (Forehead slap!)

Now I get it. Yes, that would work great. : )

Thanks for sticking with my stubborn but clueless questions. : )

Also that is an old USB cable I cut and used for the wiring.

Here is my thread from 2011..
