I have an 08 1125R and looking at getting a new cluster with the updated firmware (I believe 6.2 is the latest?). I'm guessing I won't be able to set the odometer on the new cluster to the correct mileage myself. Can the dealer do it? Do they need the whole bike or can I just give them the new cluster before I install it?

Yes 6.2 is the current firmware. The IC will mate to the ECU after 30 minutes and hence the Odo will update. There is a countdown clock that starts as soon as you apply power/ignition.

Thanks J.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you install a used cluster? Does it still "mate"? If not, does it just start counting miles from its current reading? Or is a used cluster unusable altogether?

I had around 8,2k miles on my original '08 IC when I put on an '09 and nothing happened.

What do you mean nothing happened? Did the 09 show 8.2k or something else? Was the 09 new or used?

What I mean is that it was a straight plug and play. It had about 70ish miles already on it and that's what it read, so no syncing with what was originally on the motor. I still have that IC on it and haven't had any issues with it since I put it on.

Aha, so those buying a used bike should be careful about the real miles if the IC is not original, eh? Good info, thanks.

Well when I updated my IC I was more interested in getting rid of the vamp glitch then my actual miles as I will keep my 1125R forever.

Someone probably figured out a way to keep the original miles on it. But who knows?

A new cluster will "marry" the ECM after a 30 minute countdown timer completes and will pull the info from there, mileage and VIN, possibly any historic DTCs.

A used IC will retain its original mileage and VIN info but otherwise work fine.
According to Jim Dugger, the bike runs fine without an IC.(track/race bike)

ECMs can be swapped with no issues.

Zack, thanks that's good info. So the mileage and VIN are stored in the ECM. What happens when you swap ECMs, like let's say you go to an aftermarket exhaust and race ECM? How do you adjust the miles on the new ECM to match the old?

Any ECM you plug in will replace its vehicle info with that from the IC.
I have 3 ECMs for Loretta for different setups and swap without issue.

The IC's vehicle info will be used over the ECM if there are differences.
If you use a used IC you will have mileage and VIN from the host bike.

Very cool. So you can replace both the IC and ECM and as long as you replace them one at a time you keep the correct mileage. Well done.

OK I kinda jumped on that one.
Had to delete a post and redo it...

If you are getting NEW IC and ECM both, replace the IC first, it will pull info from the ECM when they marry.
Then replace the ECM and you're good to go.

Also be aware that a CR and an R have different ECM.
