...but I recently discovered Victory's Pikes Peak hill climb attempt with their new 60 degree water cooled 1200 cc V-twin.

For those who don't know, Roland Sands built a bike around the motor, specifically for the competition.

Unfortunately, they DNF, and a Ronin-modified EBR 1190 came in 2nd in the heavyweight motorcycle class, and 10th overall.

The fastest motorcycle was a Honda CBR1000RR, which beat the Ronin/EBR by less than 16 seconds, over the full course that rises from 9,390 ft to 14,115 ft above sea level.

I hadn't been previously aware of Victory's 1200cc motor. Guess I need to get my head out of my toolbox and start paying more attention to the industry.

You should venture to other parts of the BadWeb board, good conversation about it in the Racing section during it's development and the race.

You're right, I need to look around a bit.

Found the link Hughlysses provided.

Thanks for that...

Edited to thank Brother_in_Buells for the pics. I meant to post some this morning, but time got away from me, and I didn't.

I saw that. Doesn't seem to make much sense, does it?

Seems to me Roland s=Sands efforts would have been better spent on the EBR. Poor decision by him.

If getting paid is a bad decision, then, yes.

One thing that really stood out to me about Victory's web site was the need of a good proofreader...it's rare these days to see a web site belonging to a major company (or at least a subsidiary of one) with multiple misspellings on their web site.

One of my biggest pet peeves.

Roland does Buell, too (I'll take one please):

A couple of bits related to PPIHC. Bike entries in 2009: 120, 2014: 85. This year limited to 33. The car guys don't really like the bikes because they get dry course preference, and bikes have to deal with oil and course debris if cars run first. Seems PPIHC is weaning bikes from the program.

I like that RSD bike...probably one of the first I have.

The way I interpreted their (PPIH AHIC) (figure it out for yourself) follow up clarification about the handlebar rule is it's all about protecting the bikers from themselves. They go on to say that bikes have only run a limited number of years since the race started, so they're doing the bikers a favor by letting them join this auto race at all.

Edited to add that they also say they're just reinstating a previous rule that was dropped for a couple of years.

Looking more closely at the RSD bike above, is that a kink in the rear cylinder exhaust?

Or maybe a concession to noise reduction?

Or an optical illusion?

Edited: That's an interesting pattern on the belly pan/fairing, and other locations. I'm going to throw out a guess that the pattern was computer generated, transferred to the appropriate material, then hyrdo-dipped.
Or not...

Front fenders just slow you down.
