So on my 09 R I have received the F-R AF Fuel Sys Error for a while, however it's been fairly sporadic, going away after I ride at 70 mph for a few miles. I have a Jardine RT5 system on it. The last few days the check engine light for this error has stayed on for the duration of my ride, and I decided to investigate on getting it fixed.

I went to my closest dealer that has experience working on Buells, 115 miles away, and asked about the service. He said he's worked on them before, however he gave me some info that I'm not sure about.

He said that if I brought it in to be worked on and didn't have an exhaust from a 2010 then he would have to take my exhaust off and put his '10 on, do the tune on the dyno, take his '10 exhaust off and put mine on and try to do the dyno at the same point. He said this was because of some sort of service port on the exhaust to measure O2 and CO2 stats. All this labor means that the bill is raised by another $250. Does this sound correct, and if so where is this port located so that I might see if I have the correct exhaust. Thank you everyone.

Chris.

It is common to get that error if you have a bike with the stock ECM but an aftermarket exhaust. The easiest fix is to get a pre programmed Race ECM from EBR or IDS for your exhaust. Plug and play, and the bike will ride better. http://idspd.com/xcart/buell-1125r-Jardine-ecm.htm l

I'm not sure what the dealer is talking about with the service port, the only entry and exits on the stock muffler is the inlet from the header and the exhaust tip. He may be referring to the ports on each header for the oxygen sensor, but the Jardine along with all other slip-ons do not replace the header so there is nothing for them to swap out.

Chris...go here:

http://idspd.com/xcart/buell-1125r-Jardine-ecm.htm l

IDS are the OEM programmers for the Buell ECM

a custom dyno tune out here costs $350-$400...the plug and play solution above works and takes less time.

I have an EBR race ECM on the bike, well I think so, which is a long story. My ECM has "Race use only" etched on it, rather than all the EBR ecms that I have seen have a sticker. I'll check out those sites when I get off work. The estimated costs from my dealer were $850 without taking my exhaust off, and $1100 or so if I had to have him use his exhaust.

Since you have a Race ECM already, buying another one won't fix the issue. You have something else wrong with the bike (possibly injector or a faulty sensor).

Getting the bike tuned again won't fix the issue in this case.

Does your dealer provide the Vaseline or K-Y jelly with that?
Damn...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that Race Only ECMs can be tuned for a number of specific setups, and the OP's may not be the correct one for his setup.

The one on my '09 was allegedly tweaked to optimize it with the exhaust on the bike.

Regardless, being that the problem apparently got progressively worse, I would have to agree that there is another issue, and it's not likely to be the tune on the ECM.
FWIW...

Sounds like the dealer thinks you have a pre-2010 XB instead of an 1125. The 2009 and earlier XB models only had one O2 sensor, and therefore, one O2 bung in the header. But all 1125 models came factory with two O2 sensors - one in each header.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the help. I rode today and the error code came up, however after a few mins it went away like normal. I've noticed that it comes on more when the weather changes to less humidity and/or slightly colder.

Easier said than done Dannybuell, I've called a few other locations and a couple have said they would "try their hand at working on a Buell" No thanks I do that enough myself. Haha

He is a dolt, and I would never try to use the stock O2 bungs as they are too hard to access. Weld in your own. And what are your AFV's saying?
