Hey guys, was out riding my 2009 1125 the other day maybe 30 miles of hard riding, then it suddenly started dropping very low in voltage at a stop light. Battery light came on,I was able to rush home and get there before it dropped too low. Battery was dropping to 10.5 while still riding. And would charge back up. I did the unfix to the Harley harness, boom 13.9 to 14.2 at idle. I got a couple more months of riding season here in new York. I need opinion, on whether I'm safe or not with my rotor for the next couple month riding around with my bike with out the harness?, I have a shorai lithium battery, and k&n air filter. Other then that bike is stock. Any advice is helpful! Thanks buell family ! - nick

If you keep your rpm's up you should be fine. You could probably replace the relay in the so called fix and it should get you through the rest of the season. Where abouts in NY are you?

I was trying to keep the rpms up, but while keeping them up I couldn't Crack 12 volts. I was sure I was gonna end up on the side of the road. As of right not I took the harness out, and it's much better this way, but I know I'm doomed to have my stator eventually fail. As far as replacing the relay what benefit would this have? And I'm from long Island

The relay is used to switch off two phases of the stator under certain conditions to reduce temperatures, which obviously means it can't provide as much power to charge the bike. If the relay failed, it can get stuck in the position that keeps the bike in single phase mode.

The relay is a common automotive part, if you bring it to Autozone or similar car parts store you can get another one.

I guess my question is, my bike has 7000 miles on it, how long can I run the Harley unfix, with out the harness before the stator burns up?, I replaced the relay today for the record

I have 22,000 miles. harness has been off since 2000 miles. It acted up after a long 2 up ride. I killed it and it took a moment to get up the energy to restart. I may need a new battery I have had the same HD battery since I got it in Mar 2010. I always use a battery tender.

You guys are helping a lot, I bought the new relay today and that seemed to work. But still runs the battery low, do to the harness. I wish I could run it with out the harness and not burn my stator up.

Check your resting voltage of the battery. If it is 12.4 or above it is still good.

I would do a full electrical test starting with the stator AC voltage output.

Your stator will still fail with the relay harness; it just prolongs the life a little.

The stator can still easily burn up even with the harness. The issue is oil flow, at low RPMS it doesn't flow enough oil to cool it off.

I am currently in the process of fixing the stock stator problem. My bike only has 9k on it, and was riding and the low voltage light came on and the bike shut off. Did this twice to make sure it wasn't a fluke, bad stator. In the process I found out my Shorai had a bad cell and wouldn't charge all the way on the charger. Got a free shiny new battery out of the deal from them. Sent my rotor to twin cycles, and today is 2 weeks from when I shipped and it is already on its way back. Will be back in Cleveland on Monday. When I pulled the rotor and stator they were both burned, so my rotor needed some extra machining. I would pull it and send it now, and you'll be back on the road by the end of the month. I pulled a muscle in my shoulder pushing the bike back home 2 miles(made it in 45 min though!) and it left me hobbled for 3 weeks....but if pull it now so you don't cause any more damage to the rotor

I plan on doing the entire charging system through twin motorcycles this winter, as soon so my 6 month insurance is up. I'm going to do the rotor and the stator through them, I love the company they have over there. I think I'm going to unplugged the harness for the rest of the riding season

Since I'm new to my ''09 1125 cr, and was only able to put about 15 miles on mine before it crapped out, what is "the Harley unfix" that I'm just now hearing about, and where is this relay that people are switching out? I just purchased a new stator and regulator, along with the rotor being modded by Twin Cycles. Is the unfit still needed? Should I swap the relay? I'm sure there is already a thread on the forum, but just can't seem to find it

The relay isn't hard to find. It's under the seat with a few yellow wires going to it.

Yes rip out the HD fix if you replace stator and upgrade rotor.
