Sorry for long post: 8 wks. ago stator finally died in my '09 CR. Still have time left on extended warranty. Dealer took almost all this time to decide it was the stator; and some other issues with the mileage on bike vis a vis warranty claim have delayed repair. I asked tech. if replacement stator would be another '09 or would it be a "new, improved" version ('10 stator?)? He said it was an "upgraded part". Anyone know what the dealer actions are at this point? Thanks for any info. Steve

Well the dealer is blowing smoke as there is no "upgraded" stator, the 2010 models use the same one. The issue is not with the stator itself, so even an aftermarket one will fail.

All the dealer can do under warranty is put another stock stator in. Let them do that, and when you get the bike back get the rotor cup modified by Twin Motorcycles and get that installed to permanently fix the issue.

Thanks Froggy. From following all the threads about charging system, knew it would fail. Watched it get weaker especially during any ride on a hot day. When Ebr went dark, hoped Twin M/C would still be a source for rotor; although Hildstrom's great write-up of his fix is encouraging. Especially as the tech said the price for a stock Harley stator is $680. I have a winter CR project after all! Thanks again for the info.

Get a series Voltage Regulator/ Rectifier on there too. It's a fairly straight forward operation. At least as important as any other charging system mod.

Thanks 'scrambler. A new VR was on my shopping list. Will research options. Any specific suggestions?

Thanks Shawns--the CR is too much fun to ride to not fix it right.

You have to put it in open air. They give you plenty of wire to do such. Here is mine.
