I have an IDS programmable on the way for my RS.
I talked with Tim(owner) for about 15 min to be sure I got my best options.
He was very helpful.
I will probably get one for Loretta, my 1125 soon to be 1190R even tho I have an EBR big-bore ECM.

Turns out the RS has 2( yes TWO ) ECM on board.
One under the seat has the maps, on behind the dash runs turn signals and IC display.
They are swappable, so I can have 2 maps on board and pick by switching locations, front to back.

The option of real customer service makes the tunable setup well worth the price to me.

Just got a baseline on my RS yesterday and I'm very disappointed... 144HP
All stock minus secondary resonator can.
Expected a very lean run but AF was right at 13, 6krpm and up.

Z

<edit> Upaero, the IP in the ECM is IDS' not Buell or EBR.
Their FAQ says they have made ALL Buell ignitions from day one with the tubers.

Zac, was this on an inertial dyno or a brake-type?

What gear was used?

Question for anyone who has dyno'd an 1125 (does the 1190 series use ram air also?).
Did you try blowing high speed air (leaf blower or similar) into the air intake to better simulate operating conditions?

Did you see a difference if you did?

Odd, this message didn't post the first time, trying again.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, the stock exhaust is pretty restrictive.
I will most likely get Kevin to make me something since I have history with him and my 1125R.
Absolutely no slight to good friend Dean. : )

Inertial, dynojet 250i, 5th gear, Metzler M3 rear tire.

The RS has near 2x the cross-section on the intake scoop of the 1125.
I had one HP fan aimed into the intakes and the other pointed at the side of the engine.

Had a nice long chat with Kevin planning updates to both generations of the Helicon.

Hope the software for tuning is more user friendly than the earlier EBR stuff, easily the worst to use out of any of the tuning systems I have used!

Hmm... in the context of track use and dyno tuning, it is an awesome piece of software and flows very well. It is purpose built. The ability to modify only individual parameters, auto-send updates, hot keys, three calibrations per session etc. is what makes it so great!

Yes, the GUI is very different than ECMSpy and Tunerpro and lacks many of their features. But I think those programs are much better suited for someone sitting behind a desk making tuning changes, as opposed to performing a live tuning session. For dynamic tuning, I haven't found anything better.

I find the PCM software very easy to use once you get use to the interface.

Zac - My 1190RS map was done at EBR for the stock headers with the race can and one base gasket removed, on 100 unleaded race fuel like Sunoco 260 or VP 100. I recently tweaked it at tuned Racing with Mike Pond. Changes were minimal. If you want a copy of the map, let me know.

Just down the road from me. Who knew??

Tim's a great guy, with lots of Buell/EBR history and knowledge. I visited his operation last week and ended up with him in his airplane strafing my neighborhood!!

Maybe just me, but I am familiar with at least a dozen other tuning programs from standalones to Power Commander. And for ease of use and just finding things, the Buell was horrid.

I was introduced to the Tim a few years ago at Mid Ohio race track. The are only a couple hours from me. I may need to contact them due to a track incident last weekend at Road America. My Barker exhaust self destructed and basically fell apart. It appears that the aluminum body stress cracked and all of the rivets pulled through the aluminum.

I just acquired a Buell race exhaust. My current EBR ECM is mapped for the Barker. Perhaps they can fix me up with the proper map.

Thanks Rob, I will likely take you up on that offer soon.

My front module, the VCM, went out day before yesterday.
Tim said he would load a good basic map for my configuration so I can get started.

This kind of personal co-operation is what grabbed me about Buell in the first place.

Oldog, just because IDS produced the maps and ECMs under contract does not mean they own the IP. They are one of the many vendors Buell/EBR had.

I'm really impressed with the ECMDROID app that is available for free. You can adjust, tune, test, download and upload with ease. All you need is a bluetooth ECM connector which are readily available and an android device. It makes it real easy to share maps too.

Mike Cobb makes them. I had 2 at one point in time, along with a regular USB cable.

I got my Bluetooth ECM connector on eBay about a year ago for $35 so I assumed the person I got it from would still be selling them on there. I see now that he isn't even an eBay member anymore. Mine has a Buell Tech sticker on it, but I couldn't find that company either. I guess they aren't as easy to find as I thought. There are instructions on how to make one here if you don't mind gathering the parts and doing some soldering: http://www.ecmspy.com/btwireless2.shtml. Definitely worth the effort to be able to use ECMDROID. Hopefully somebody else will ramp up production of these Bluetooth adapters for people to buy now that the app has made it such a valuable tool.

Anyone know if only the Cali-can equipped 2009 1125r had a catalytic converter?
I've heard conflicting info: Some say all the 1125 bikes in 2009 had cats. Others say only the California bikes (with Cali-can) had them.

I'm ready to buy an ECM for the stock exhaust on my 2009 1125r (no Cali-can) and want to be sure I order the correct tune.

www.buelltooth.com for the Bluetooth ECM adapter.

He's a badwebber and I met him at a PBIR Trackday. Nice guy. I watched the device work with the free app and it's pretty impressive. I'm sure he's available via phone for questions.

Mods...please delete this if I wasn't supposed to forward product links.

Anyone know if only the Cali-can equipped 2009 1125r had a catalytic converter?

All the recent banter seems to confirm that.

But, in order to verify your muffler without a doubt, the links below show a very simple check so you can find out for sure.

N stamped in collector:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/642336.html

Actual pic of N stamped in collector (of a 2008 muffler):

N in collector

Since this is a 2008 muffler, the collector is painted black. It will - or should - be bare stainless on a 2009.

Please report back so we know the mystery is solved and we can have some honest to goodness facts,

Great, I'll look at the link and check my muffler for an "N". Thank you 1313!

My 2009 stock muffler has a stainless, unpainted collector with the "N" stamped on the collector. Looking down the inlet tubes of the muffler, into the first chamber, I don't see what looks like a cat, just a large diameter tube (approx. 4 inches) with a ring of holes around it.

I guess all this means I don't have a cat and I'll be ordering the non-cat tuned ECM. Thanks for the help!

Would anyone here share their RACE (EBR) ECM tune for an 1125 with stock exhaust (no cat)?
This is the missing link in my ECMDroid effort.

Brett there is a general race map available from the TunerPro website. Be sure to confirm your firmware before flashing.
