HI Gents,

I am in love with my 1125R couple of weeks now. Few days ago I heard something terryfing again (that was the second time). A very short (0.5second) loud noise, coming from the bike while standing at neutral gear waiting for green light. Scary metal-like sound...like twisted metal, or high speed spinning metal bolt inside the engine.. should I be worried? thank you for feedback. Imma total Buell noob and do not know much about these beasts.

There's possibly something getting caught in your valvetrain? Maybe it's a valve shim that someone dropped into the dark crevices of the cam gear drive area during a valve inspection. It's very easy to drop something down there when working on the engine's valves. Just my theory. I do know several people in here who have dropped shims down there it took them a long time of "fishing" the shim out using a magnet and flashlight.

When I was replacing a shim I very nearly lost one down one of those crevices! It was sitting right on the edge of the cylinder head! Whew!

If I were you, I would rotate that engine down, open the valve covers, and spin the engine with a large wrench to see what's going on.

Ciemny...the 2008 had some assembly problems at the factory...the Loctite that was used to retain the rotor nut (gear shift side of bike under the engine cover) was the wrong grade...it's possible the nut has loosen and you're hearing the nut or rotor rubbing the cover/stator....go here and scroll down for picture:

I'm new to Buells also, but is there any chance the starter is engaging briefly due to an electrical fault?
I haven't yet hit the button with the motor running, so I don't know what it sounds like on an 1125, but the possibility crossed my mind.

Panshovevo...the sprag clutch could be coming apart...it's a one-way clutch used by the starter motor to turn over the engine...it has rollers that engage a ramp to lock the "drive" in one direction...after the engine starts the rollers disengage...if the rollers have become flat spotted or the clutch housing is worn the rollers may engage when they are not designed to... more info here:

Nuts4mc, I'm familiar with various derivations of a sprag-type overrunning clutch, but they aren't normally engaged in the applications I'm familiar with.

However, if the starter drive was being inadvertently engaged on a regular basis with the engine running, this could lead to the situation you suggested.

I haven't yet looked closely at the 1125 starting system to see how it might differ from those I'm familiar with.
