Just out of curiosity, what's the difference with the wheel weights on the left or right side? Better handling?

Yep service manual says "On the front wheel, locate a flat surface on the right side of the wheel rim" and in another part mentions that weights on the wrong side can cause handling irregularities and again says "Front wheel weights must be on the brake rotor side of wheel".

Also says 1 ounce maximum of weights for front.

because the mass of the rotating assembly of the front wheel is offset because of single sided rotor

Interesting nugget that escaped - or maybe never made it into - my memory bank... Or maybe got lost when my trained Buell tire changer up and moved...

I checked my XB12XT last night, which just got a new set of skins ~2 weeks ago. When I scrubbed them tires in, I went blasting off into the countryside and really tore into it and burned through a tank of gas. Handled flawlessly (for a Uly) and phenomenally (for a Uly). Yep, wheel weights are not on the rotor side of the front wheel. Shame on tire installer friend, but no discernible drawback from what I've seen.

I also checked my 1190RX front wheel - still original front wheel installed and balanced by EBR - and the wheel weights were also not on the rotor side of the front wheel. It's handling is lazer sharp and stellar like it has been since day one, well, even earlier since the day I demo'ed an 1190RX. If it's 'critical' for an XB or 1125, then why does it not appear 'critical' for an 1190?

But then again I ain't Joe Racer,

P.S. I don't know why, but I neglected to check my 1125CR last night...

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how 1oz of wheel weight, when placed on either side of the rim, can have an effect on handling when you're talking about a ~20-ish pound rotating assembly.

not critical but if having problems can be one thing to check

remember, 1 oz of weight at the outer diameter of the rim rotating at hi rpm is no longer an ounce.

F = U*ù²

U=mass(unbalance)*r

e = U /m(rotor)

Where F = Force due to Unbalance,
U = Unbalance.
ù = Angular Frequency.
e = Specific Unbalance.
m = Mass.
r= distance between unbalance and the axis of rotation of the object}

Never had an issue at track speeds. The Michelin tires do not have weight indicators. I usually rotate the tire on the rim until I get close with no weights. I shoot for a max of four 1/4 oz weights.

Sooooo. Slightly back on topic. About those radiators. How different are the side mounted set on the 1190 than the 1125?

I found the 1125 pics with the stock setup on another Badweb post. If you compare the pics the two set ups are night and day different, the 1190 setup sits lower and closer to the center of the bike. The old set up sits up higher and towards the outside. Im not finished with the conversion yet, but just sitting on the bike and flicking it side to side it feels less bulky.

Looks like they're roughly half as wide and twice as tall for about the same area.

the cost of the exhaust and those radiators is more than the bike is worth.

No doubt.
My 1190RS feels half as wide as my 1125R.

Ace - I'm impressed with your progress, but why didn't you just get a cheap RX?

The bike is worth more to me than any other 1125, it was a gift when I made E-5, this bike will never be for sale. I do have an RX!!! LOL #32 I got it for a good price, its one beast of a bike and I love it. The main reason Im doing this is because its a project I started a while bike and I intend to finish it. I know it can be done and im going to do it. I could care less how much it costs me, it will be the only one of its kind. If I could show you all the custom firearms I have built for my self and the amount of $$$ I have in them it would give some one a heart attack LOL!!! I wrench on guns for a living, most of this project is funded out of firearms I built for some of the guys I work for, these guys are top notch operators if you catch my drift. Im just a big gear head and basically wrench on or modify anything I get my hands on. When I finish my 1125, my Firebolt will go on the chopping block I have a bunch of parts waiting for that day to come. The RX will have the same fate,I already have plans brewing in my head!!!! Its probably gona be super $$$ but I dont care.

OK, I understand that.
My 1125R is getting stripped, painted, big-bored and will hit the road as a sport-tour.
The 1190 kit was on the way when a windfall allowed me to get an RS Carbon.

Life is good.

That's awesome. One day I'll have the spare change for that. Until then I'll just make all the parts I need in my garage : )

I think it would look amazing if you got the frame and swing arm sandblasted to raw aluminum, kinda like the race bike.

Ace117,
I commend you for your effort. You do not do this for profit. I do development on the motor because it has not been done. It is essentially the same as Rotax designed it. It can be so much more. I will be doing the same mod, when my engine is completed.
