I have a 09 R that has recently become almost impossible to ride. It's my daily commuter so I ride it when it's hot, cold, rain, or shine. For some reason over the past few weeks it's steadily started backfiring on decel and riding really rough at low rpms. A little background info: stator upgrade has been done, ebr race ecm, and rt-3 exhaust. The exhaust and ecm have been on for about a year. All input is appreciated. I'd really like to get back on 2 wheels as soon as possible.

Intake/exhaust leaks

For intake, use propane or mapp gas (unlit of course) and, with a long narrow hose to get into the tight areas, push some around the seals when idling. See if the engine speeds up.

For exhaust, put a leather glove on, soak it in water until saturated, then start running your gloved fingers around the exhaust seals area when idling. If you have a leak there, you'll know it.

Don't forget your injector o-rings too. They can leak as well.

Because you ride in all weather conditions, I would check all connections, corrosion can cause multiple issues. It is easy cheap maintenance to do.

Appreciate all the feedback. I'll try those things this evening or tomorrow morning and let you know what I find

Absolutely check all your grounds.
I see you're in Houston, where rust rusts.
Double-check grounds.

Is your battery original?
Kinda sounds like a low-voltage issue.

I'm actually in Lafayette, Louisiana right now which is almost identical weather. Back to Houston next week. The battery is only a few months old but it has been starting weaker lately. I usually ride with the voltage readout on the screen and it's been charging really well. About to get into it so we'll see how this goes..

I always leave mine on a tender. Remember these take some serious cranking amps to start.
