Let me start over. I pulled the sprag clutch off and removed the inner part. The spring that holds the little friction parts was all bound up. Dude there are little speckles of metal powder all over in between the rotor and sprag mount. It feels like toothpaste. I also noticed the six bolts that hold this together where not centered when I removed this. I don't know how that happened but bigger slivers of metal showed their ugly faces as I removed each bolt. The threads on the plate been stripped somehow. I don't know if I should replace the whole assembly or just the inner sprag clutch. The mount has markings in it from the sprag rubbing it. I think all this is what is causing the hard starts and metallic clank when I start and it doesn't grab. Or when I shut it off.https://imageshack.com/i/ipopkgEijhttps://imageshack.com/i/iqYWCDV1jhttps://imageshack.com/i/ezvYWO13j

rollers are not supposed to have "flat spots"...the parts works on the concept of a roller and ramp...the roller wedges itself to prevent the part from free wheeling ( in one direction - what kind of oil were you running...or was it just too low?)...I needed some special parts for my 1125r...might want to contact these guys on ebay:

hope this helps

I'm up to $465 in parts so far. This is gay. And I still haven't rented the tool to lock the crank and will need to buy new oil and filter( just did that) last week. As well as loctites. Various runs to the dealer and hardware store.

Have you ordered anything yet? I just did this job a few months ago and it cost me less than $350. Granted mine hadn't gone bad yet and my starter gear was still perfectly fine. But I did sprag + housing, oil change, rotor nut, and gaskets.

Was reading the manual and it says to use loctite 648 on both the sprag clutch fasteners and rotor nut. Is that correct? I have read different things.

Yes sir. I did 272 on everything. 648 was hard to find. Never had any problems and EBR said I shouldn't, it just might be really hard to take it apart again if I have to.

This has the same specs as the 648 and is easier to get

I keep seeing people mention how hard it is to find the specified Loctite chemicals. McMaster-Carr carries both, and ships direct to you.

Ya, I can find them. We have a really neat nut and bolt shop called Shamrock. Dude they have all the loctites. Also nuts and bolts by the ounce/pound/ maybe by the ton too if you asked nicely. But the loctites may be in bigger bottles. So I may be ordering online.
