Long story but, just took the new 09 1125R out of the crate. Dealer had installed the HD factory "fix"(harness & relay) prior to delivery. I will do the full stator/rotor/regulator mod in the fall. The question is: Until I do the charging system upgrade, would it be better to leave the HD fix on or take it off? I will not be doing a lot of miles in this period, just break-in and some mods/testing/day rides to make the bike more of a sport-tourer.

Keep your revs over 4500 rpm, don't lug the thing around when, you change the oil put 3 qts in it and you should be alright. Who did you get the bike from the G P shop? Sounds like a great find.

Was stashed in Canada. The guy had a buddy that rides and when the HD fire sale was on to dump all the Buell stock his buddy talked him into it. Seems it was an impulse purchase and he just never got around to getting a bike licence, mood passed and it just sat there.

Tonight it got denoided, RG tail tidy, Double Bubble ST windscreen, Convertibars and lost the pillion pegs and brackets. Next up is race ECM, exhaust, charging system, clutch slave, Buell fairing lowers and a custom set of bags(still thinking on this one).

If your doing the EBR rotor, remove the so called fix. I would change out the regulator to the ce605sb and the stator will run cooler.

I bought a 09 in 2012 that had 179 miles on it. It had the HD fix too

by 4300 the stator issue had to be addressed, and the stator was a bit cooked, but still usable

Watch the fork seals, mine went about the same time, I believe from sitting so long, and an engine seal went too. Oh, and then the clutch went, I think the parts corroded from sitting so long. And had a couple pistons in the front caliper seize up too.

sounds bad, and I attribute most of it to sitting for 3 years unused, but none of it was that major to fix and the bike is running awesome now.

Thanks Sprintst, I'll be keeping an eye on those potential issues. I expect a lest some seal issues due to non use. Hopefully I can address all the common ailments prior to any on road failures.

Id do the rotor now and you wont have to buy a stator later.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I'll bump up the rotor change to the top of the project list. Crank locking tool, drilled rotor and ancillary parts are now ordered.

I'm having the stator rewound with thicker wire and 2 less turns the guys doing this say it's been quite successful . I can't afford to do the rotor at the moment but do you think I should remove the HD fix

I think better is the worst enemy of good enough. If the "fix" was professionally installed, you're not out anything if you leave it in place. I still have mine installed. Keep your RPMs up and good luck!

I had good luck with the fix on my last 1125. I never had any stator trouble. The problem i had was the relay that is in the harness they add on would fail so i just replaced it every other oil change. I put 10,000 miles on it that way. I traded it in on a BMW S1000rr. I have since bought another 1125 and it had a burned up stator with only 3400 miles on it. There was no factory harness on it with the relay. Personally i would get the rotor fix and remove the factory harness if ibought another 1125. Just for peace of mind if nothing else.
