I own a 2008 1125r that i purchased with about 24,000 miles on it. I love the bike and when I first got it I went out the first week and treated many stop signs like drag strips and corners like i was in motogp. Then one day on my way back the dash showed system voltage and then shortly after froze then went black as the bike studdered before it died. It would come on and died repeatedly after that before not turning on at all. Even after charging the battery I couldn't get it to turn over.

So after some research on here I decided it was probably the voltage regulator and went ahead and replaced it with the CE 605SB as well as a new battery. in the process I removed the cover and looked at the stator and everything appeared good to go. Everything suddenly worked fine...for about a week. after a few rides i noticed with each ride the voltage on the battery would drop a little until one ride it wouldn't turn over. I checked the fuses and everything was fine. I then check both grounds, removed and sanded them and the areas lightly to establish a better contact point and that seemed to fix it. I tested the stator and everything seemed good. The reading at the battery when running was always around 14.1-14.3 and each time i started it the battery was always charged and wasn't lower each time.

Now it did it again. during my last ride, two weeks later, the dash flashed system voltage and the battery light came on. I turned off the bike and started it again and checked the voltage and it was reading a constant 12.6-12.8. It died before I got home much the same way as last time. I put it on the charged again overnight and the next day took a reading. The battery was fully charged reading 12.5 volts and when running it started off reading 12.6-12.8 and then i watched it slowly rise over the course of 45 seconds to 14.1-14.3 again. I havn't touched it since then but i have no idea what is wrong at this point. My dad is saying it shouln't be the stator because the battery wouldn't read much over 12v while running if it was broken. he thinks its the voltage regulator because of the way it jumped after starting it last and how it runs fine and then sometimes dies off like that randomly. but in the end its all speculation. Any help is appreciated and sorry for the novel. I just figured the more information the better. Thanx!

there's a big grey connector that takes power from the Stator over to the Voltage reg...
(remove your seat-the wires/connector's path takes it close to the rear cylinder's exhaust)...it has (4) positions but only uses (3)...the (3)wires coming up from the stator are Yellow in color...check that the wires are still making contact with the contacts in the connector...the heat from the exhaust can make the connections erratic..try insulating it with a piece of fiberglass cloth or silicone rubber...hope this helps

Where is the new regulator mounted? The CE605Sb needs a lot of airflow. Here is where I mounted mine. I have heard that people have had problems with them, not a lot. But a few. My VR when running is alway between 14.2 and 14.4. I would still check your stator. You can download a manual if ya need to. Just start with the basics, but it does seem that your on the right track. The 08's didn't the stator problems,

I currently have mine mounted under the tail section. Everytime ive stopped and checked it, even after lights have came on, it was always cool and never felt over heated but i'm not sure if thats really gonna tell me anything. I'm gonna check the stator connection and I guess move it. I did notice it dies it after a while or if ive been hot rodding around town.

Danny I'm not sure what you mean. I watched the video and there aren't two sets of plugs that work for the stator like in the video on my bike. i checked the connections and they are all firm. I started the bike and the volts want to stay around 13.5 until the fans kick on and then it drops to 13. I wiggled the hell out of all the wires and connections and no change. I unplugged and replugged everything and no change. i even got a leaf blower and blew air across the voltage regulator to see if it would help and nothing. I'm not sure what else there could be at this point other than either a faulty stator or voltage regulator. Any other tests or possibilities?

08 didn't have the charging harness fix. That was for the 09. Follow the manual for checking your stator. Even if it is putting out 12v it could still be broken. There are 3 phases to your stator, if even on leg was bad it wouldn't keep up with the demands of the bike.

Rob...Danny was referencing a factory fix, that HD tried to help the stator (on '09s) by using a relay to disconnect one phase of the stator...they were hoping the electrical removal of (1) phase, the stator would run cooler...but it's not too reliable (the relay fails)...if you don't have the "extra" harness not a big deal ( you stated above you have a '08 - '08s don't need the harness)...I would suspect your battery is old ...but you state above you put in a new battery when you changed the VR (as a WASG - can you try a different battery?)...I would check the connections at the battery and check the ground (under the tail section follow the (-) cable near the swig arm pivot - make sure it is tight.

with 25,000 miles on the clock ...I would also check the wiring to the ignition switch...does the bike die when you turn the bars to the extreme left or right?...there is not enough "slack" in the harness and the wiring to the ignition switch has been known to fail.

hope this helps
