Wait, you mean that's NOT a tank bag on top of you tank? I just ran through the previous post's and I think I saw someone say "inelegant".
+1 on that.

So just playing around as I cruised around this weekend. I feel like there really isn't a lot of air flow over the top of the air box. I mean if it works than it works,I just expected way more flow/ pressure.

The large air scoop creates a draw, that redirects a rush of air in that direction.
Trust me on this, it works better than you think.

To answer some questions........The aluminum "nose piece" is a small chin spoiler that acts as a barrier to protect the VR from exhaust heat. Without it, it looks like something is missing in my opinion.
Butt Dyno or actual results?........I'm referring to actual air flow to the air scoop, not HP figures.
Although it runs well, my next step is to fine tune this combination, as it seems to run on the lean side even with the EBR ECM.

so youre saying that youre getting more air in this way than with the traditional, stock ram air?

Hybrid, If you go back to the beginning of this thread, I explained the differences and benefits of my air intake setup.

Hybrid, Is that a question? I have no idea what "benefits" means.

well you see those things on each side of the word? Those are called quotation marks, used them to quote your statement.

I don't, personally, believe that this is an improved design on the intake system. No one uses these sorts of things on their bikes (factory/race) and I question the legitimacy of the "benefits" you state

I know what quotation marks are, but there was no context.Believe what you will, but I can guarantee, the air intake temps are much cooler which increases throttle response and drivability. Don't forget I blocked off and removed the lower air snorkel which did two things. The bike no longer ingests hot air directly from the radiators, and by removing that snorkel it opened up a passage for air to circulate around the engine better which allows the engine to run cooler and the frame to stay cooler as well.
Does it make more HP? Not sure yet, but the other "benefits" contribute to make it a worthwhile modification.

How can you guarantee that the temps are cooler? I ask because at speed I dont see the radiators, which are off to the side, affecting the air entering the opening at the front of the bike beneath the fairing.

I see what youre say, in theory it makes sense, but until there is proof then there is no guarantee to this.

The proof is the Air Intake Sensor is relocated to inside the modified air box. The air in the air box rarely ever goes higher than 10 degrees above the ambient air temperature. I watch it on the gauges as I ride in all sorts of conditions from stop and go, to high speed runs.
From your questions, I don't think you looked at the beginning of this thread. I explained most of this there. Also lots of pictures.

From what I've seen, others that relocated the sensor to inside the airbox got the same results, without modifying the intake.

Try sitting in rush hour traffic at 100 plus degrees and then we'll compare. Even in those conditions my bikes intake temps are so much cooler than before.

No, I saw the whole thread, I saw the hot rod style scoop you put onto the top of the box, I saw the leather tool bag that youput a buell decal on etc

Im still not buying it

I'm not trying so sell it, I'm an honest guy and have no reason to lie about my results. No disrespect, but the difference between you and I is I've actually done the mod and compared results, and you have not. Actual data speaks louder than hearsay or opinion, and so far, that's all you've got, opinion.
Love it, hate it, makes no difference to me. I'm just sharing something different.

Redbat, while I can appreciate the workmanship. I don't see the value add/benefit of the mods.

this is from your first post:
>I have no before and after dyno charts

So what is this data you speak of? if your simply saying that you are seeing cooler AT temps then I will also repeat that many who relocated the sensor into the air box have expressed the same conclusion.

First of all I HAD to relocate the sensor inside the air box because I removed and blocked off the original snorkel where it was located. That was the most obvious place to mount it considering how I modified the inner box as well as where the air enters the box. Secondly I've never claimed a HP increase, because it's still a work in progress. I'm still planning on tuning this combination. The "data" I referred to is what I called much lower temperatures inside the air box, specifically while standing still in rush hour traffic. The difference of why my setup stays cooler verses just relocating the sensor is, at no point does my setup EVER ingest the extremely hot air from the radiators, not even standing still, but just relocating the sensor without doing anything about the hot air FROM the radiators will make a very definite difference. Which is what I've experienced while monitoring the temperatures in very hot conditions while the bike is not moving, and comparing the before and after mod temperatures of the air in the box, and also finding a slightly cooler running engine, and cooler frame. (Because the engine is never sucking in hot air.)

Well, I'm just thinking outside the box with some of my ideas, and at least trying, and refining them to see if they work or not. Kind of reminds me of a guy we all admire who had a few unconventional ways of building a bike.
(Before anyone gets offended, let me be the first one to admit, I'm not even in the same league as "that guy") but he seemed to hit a lot of resistance with his designs at first as well. (Perimeter brakes, fuel in frame, under slung exhaust. To name just a few.
Anyway, a least I've got the guts to try.
