In the service manual is says to:

quote:

Remove the wire terminals from the socket housing and tape
a length of mechanics wire to the leads.



What tool did you all use, and where might I be able to find one on short notice? I was planning to remove the stator tomorrow so it can be sent to Rick's. I thought I had all the odd bits and pieces lined up, but apparently not.

If you disconnect the connecter there is a little plastic piece in the center that locks the pins/leads into the connector. remover the plastic piece with pas ice needle nose pliers and move the pins to the inner part of the connector. You will feel them kinda give when released and then you can just pull the wires form the connector.... at least i think this is what you are asking about.

now the wires are free you can attach a "mechanics wire" to the stator leads and pull the stator leads through the harness

I assume you are talking about the piece shown a little after 8:45 into the following video?

Yes, looks like no tools required other than small flat head screwdriver.
