Yea I have the same issue when I hop on my XBs, not that they don't have power, they just don't have it anywhere near in levels the 1125 does. It is even worse with passengers, I can just roll on the throttle in 6th and have plenty of passing power on an 1125, but on a XB I need to downshift to 3rd and hope the straight is long enough. Then don't get me started on the heat output, the vibrations, excessive maintenance, and general unreliability.

At least the 12 has better fuel economy? Or is it a wash? Or do you just don't track it and don't care what it does in that respect?

My 1125s average 45mpg, my XBs are in the 55-60 range. Not a huge difference, range is about the same with needing fillups around 200 miles.

I love both bikes. I had my XB12R at the same time I had my 1125R for about 8 mos.

Yes the power is different but it sure wasn't slow! The heat output was never a problem with me. Unless you ride a lot in traffic...then the 1125R produces a lot of heat too. Vibrations? The 1125R has MORE direct vibrations than the XB12R. Finally, excessive maintenance? Froggy! The XB12R requires almost no maintenance except oil/filter/spark plug/air cleaner replacements! Finally, my XB12R was very reliable. It was an '06.

Both of those figures are a lot better than what I was expecting (especially for the 1125). Then again, I believe you do quite a bit to sip less fuel (turning off the bike, very smooth throttling); am I remembering this right?

O.P., sorry for throwing making this thread off the original topic.

I think having an 1125R and an XBR(9 or 12) would be weird.
One wouldn't get ridden much , I suspect.

I have an 09 Uly and an 08 1125R and they complement each other well.
The 11 excels at going fast.. straight lines, twisties, good weather, bad weather. Lay down and fly.
The Uly is more like a Harley, balls down low.. likes going fast but a leisurely putt works too. Kick back behind the big w/s and have a smoke...

Yeah, they're both down today. Uly has a flat rear and Loretta has an electron leak somewhere.
Had to leave her at the shop and walk home. : (

Drive the Camaro and fix the bikes.

The XB produces significantly more heat in traffic than the 1125. I've seen XBs go into skip spark mode to try and keep cool, I've yet to see that happen on a 1125.

Vibrations? The 1125R has MORE direct vibrations than the XB12R.

I've never seen an 1125 fall off the kickstand. Hell if you even have a slight incline the XB will walk itself away.

You obviously haven't been doing any maintenance on yours then!

I apologize for the crap quality, but the XB requires a boatload more maintenance than the 1125.

Every 2500 miles you inspect the oil,
brakes, tires.

Every 5000 miles you have to change the oil, oil filter, adjust primary chain, change primary chain fluid, adjust idle speed, torque steering bearings, adjust throttle cables, adjust clutch cables, inspect belt, clean oil cooler, lube up all kinds of levers and cables.

Every 10k you have to do pretty much everything in the 5k list plus inspect primary chain shoe, check the ignition timing, do a TPS reset, change spark plugs, change the fork oil.

The 1125 has virtual no maintenance in comparison. Not only are there less frequent intervals, there are less things to do.

Lets break this down. Every 6200 miles, change oil (no filter), clean radiators, inspect tires, clutch fluid, belt, controls, switchs, etc.

Every 12,400 miles, same as above, adds oil filter, valve clearance check, spark plug replacement, clean/replace the crank breather and air filter.

Every 18,600 miles, do the 6200 mile service and then change the fork oil.

In a period of 20,000 miles, an XB would have been in the shop 8 times for service, not counting the break-in service. That same period for the 1125 is 3 times.

I have no easy way of breaking down the costs, but going based on my real world experience I've been billed less for the 12k service on my 1125 than the 10k on a XB. The 1125 hands down wins in maintenance.

I have both... they both have their time and place.

Honestly I hop on the XB more esp if im riding solo, the sound is better, torque around town is more useable, gettings double the gas mileage, and IMO looks way better.

my 1125 on the other hand is not a looker and the sound with my barker sounds like every other vtwin bike (sv, rc, tl etc) and seems to kind of "blend in"

I get a ton of compliments on my XB, and people are always staring at it at stop lights wondering why it sounds the way it does.

On the other note, the XB always has bolts falling out of it, locktite is REQUIRED, you gotta watch the kick stand when it idles, gets hot in traffic (just the engine, the 1125 DOES give more rider heat, but engine stays same temp most of the time)

I couldnt tell you how many bolts ive put in my 1125 hand tight that have not fallen out yet, and ive been watching.

The vibes you get on the XB also are kind of like a massaging chair you get a good body feeling after a decent ride, you dont get this on the 1125

Riding with sport bike guys always hop on the 1125, or going racing, or anything like that.

Have a Cr and Ss. The Cr puts out waaaay more heat and roasts my right leg. Cr gets ~30mpg while the Ss gets me over 40.

Cr is a helluva machine but is much more high strung to me than the relaxed, easy torque of the Ss. Doesn't the Ss have a couple more lb-ft of torque that comes on much earlier?

Love them both, use them interchangeably. You couldn't get me to sell either.

YMMV,
Nels

Yeh I'm pretty sure.something isn't right.with my xb. It's just way.too doggish. It probably needs new plugs and tps reset, air filter cleaned. It's been sitting abkout a year. I've use seafoam in the fuel system. Poor neglected thing.

Much as I like my 1125R, the finest bike I've ever owned (had over 60) is my X1.

+1 to Crowley, 9 times out of 10 I find myself on the X1 before the 1125. Just feel like it has more personality.

I have an X1 and the 1125,

The 25 is more complex in most respects,
Its a job to do that engine rotate valve set job,
I would think that wheels brakes and other items besides engine / clutch would be similar between the two.

I did ALL the maintenance on both my 1125R and the XB12R.

All the checks you listed on the XB12R is nothing compared to the valve inspection required on the 1125R!

TPS reset...did it twice in 30k miles. Primary chain check...the damn thing is so easy to do....takes 10 minutes! Clutch cable adjustment....another 10 minute job. Froggy, you are exaggerating the maintenance requirements on the XB! It may seem like more when you count them but all of them are so damn easy to do.

The idling vibration is just that....at idle. After that the engine smooths out and it isn't that much more vibey than an 1125R.

I love both bikes. I prefer the power and handling of the 1125R. But the XB is not a maintenance hog...not even close.

Coming from Japbike land (SV1000S), the XB's I rode....that power band is completely unusable for a sportbike, there's no overrev at all. The vibes were worse than my '96 Sportster with open header drag pipes. The SV was a tank...a fast tank...the XB felt like a fast tractor. It's just wierd, man. When I got off it I felt like I had been felt up by a bunch of smurfs and was half aroused. The drummer exhust may have had something to do with it....it did sound awesome though. They make more sense as a retro....awesome power and feel for that, but then way too technical. Wierd.

My 1125 is smooth as a baby's bottom compared to the XB or the SV. I never see SV's or RC51's any more, in northern VA I honestly see more Ducatis than SV's, the '25 is definately a stand out. I get looks and compliments...questions about the fans...all the time. With the traffic here it gets sooooo hot....the little plastic panel by the exhaust warped up & melted....I've been squidding on 90+ days, but still, she don't like idling at lights. There's a guy at work here has a brand new 848 Ducati Corsa, uber sexy- but he can't even ride it in 90+ weather, it cooks his butt...

I've always defended the "HD" Buells in Japbike land, even though I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I wasn't being negative about the XB, just my initial impression. Now that I understand what I'm looking at a little better, I'm developing a fetish for the older Buells. I think a straight XB is just too similar to the 1125...the same but slower? But then I see them at lights, with the clear airbox covers, tinted wind screens, and polished exhausts....all stuff I would think is tacky on a sportbike....and it makes me smile.

But a Ully....I have a serious thing for a Ully right now as a sport tourer/commuter with luggage. I am dying to ride one! I think it would fantastic for two up touring at a moderate pace with my wee lass.

I was at the Reston Town Center the other night and saw....an S1? Maybe it was a Cyclone. Sorry, I'm a Buelltard....but it had the underslung shock....the guy had pulled all the plastics off, it was bare framed with a little fly screen....geeezus it was sexy. I wanted to lick it. I wanted to hang around it and wait for the guy to come back and ask what it was, but my lady wouldn't let me. i was thinking "Why the hell can't HD build this bike as a badass sport/standard?" make it the new Sportster, or call it something different, but that would make a fantastic "traditional" standard to bring to market.

So I guess I'm coming around.

If your first thought was "that's not a seat, it's a suppository" then it was an S1.

Otherwise, it was probably an M2. : )

The "high powered tractor" works really well for an adventure bike.
