For those who have removed the stator, how did you get the harness/wires with the connector pulled down from above the engine? There is virtually no room and I don't want to accidentally rip the connector off, and I don't want to rotate the engine. Thanks!

that thread is great.

only thing i can add is that it does not matter how you connect the 3 stator wires

Thanks guys, I did a search but never found that thread, thats was pretty simple. Never new those connectors were so easy to come apart. My stator is off to Gary at custom rewind, he's gonna try something a little different since he's had a couple known failures. He said he's done about fifteen with two returns, anybody else out there have one go bad and not report it to him? He seems like a real genuine guy would like to help us find a solution, even if the issue isn't the stator alone.

I think I'm the second reported .
I know of one other early rewind (small wire ) that failed but my buddy sold the bike only made 400 miles I guess when it burned up.
Gary is a great guy and I hope he gets us some kind of long term repair.
Otherwise I have got to look for something more reliable. Between the stator and my belt breaking I have lost 6 full days of great mountain riding here in Nc

The best trick to re-install the 3 stator wires back through that super tight wiring harness....Take a 3 foot piece of weed eater cord, thread it through the wiring harness from the TOP downward to the bottom. Use a piece of coathanger, about 4 inches. Make a small loop on one end with some needlenose, I mean small or it won't fit, run the coathanger alongside the 3 ends of the wire wrapping all 3 wires and the coathanger wire very tightly with electrical tape.Inter twine the stator wires around the caot hanger wire. Make sure the hanger wire goes back down inside the black insulation, wrap it tight, but don't make it too thick. Run the weedeater cord through the small loop in the hanger wire. Feed the weedeater cord back through the harness from the bottom to the top. Take the double strand of weedeater cord at the top and start pulling while you push the wires from the bottom. For added ease, lube the wires BELOW the tape ( the black insulation is what you're lubing) with dish soap, or silicone, you'll pull it through in 1 easy motion guaranteed. Remove the coathanger wire and tape and reconnect your connector.

Hmm... good call Stargazer. I just yanked the entire black sleeve out. Guess Friday I'll see if it goes back. Maybe with some lithium grease to help. ; )

Go to Grainger and get some "elephant snot", it's a water based lube for pulling cable.

Or, just squirt some Dawn dish soap on the cables and rinse after with lots of water.

DON'T use grease, it will eat the wiring over time.
