Sorry to bring this up, been reading here about this issue. Am looking at buying an 09 with 5600 kms (3000 miles). Is there anything I should be asking the dealer to do in terms of replacing or fixing this issue? Sorry if this is an ongoing question but tried to read all the threads without much joy.........Thanks

Hailwood,

I would ensure that the harness "fix" is/has been installed. As fas as the stator, there are reports of numerous failures. Of course, stators fail in other brands as well. We have numerous folks who report no problem. We have numerous folks who report failed stators and several that reported multiple failures in the same bike We also have reports that most stators returned to the factory as failed are indeed not failed at all. It is almost like something on the Internet! The thread Posplayer sent you to is an attempt to come to ground truth. We have lots of reports of folks removing the harness upgrade and having their stators rewound commercially.
I have an 09 and was afraid to ride it for a while due to everything I read on the BadWeb. I would discuss with your dealer's service department I'm just going to keep riding mine. I'm lucky in that I have a dealer (actually three in my area) that I trust.....and a warranty.

Buy it, ride it, if it fails then put in the 2008 stator, then ride it some more. : )

No point simply worrying about something that may or may not happen, just be prepared and deal with it as the situation arises.

Froggy correct me if I am wrong. If you use the 2008 stator you also need the 2008 rotor.

Another question. I have not had to pull my stator cover as of yet but is the rotor on the 1125 a solid unit? If so wouldn't a vented one similar to the ones compufire sells allow better oil pick up and cooling for the stator? Just a thought I had.

Yes, you're correct, if you are replacing your stator the best course of action is to also replace the stator cover for improved cooling. When I replaced by 2009 Buell 1125R stator I also pulled the stator cover, and the entire changing system has been working great ever since.
