The bike is back to the dealer. First stator replaced at 5500 miles, now it's at 8800 miles. Around a 1000 miles ago, I noted that the voltage started dropping at idle, when the fans start working. I also noted that only one fan starts working right now, instead of two. I measured the ohms between the legs, and looks like only one leg is working right now. Brought it to the dealer, and they say that they are going to replace a rotor, VR and probably a stator. They don't know yet about the stator. They determined that the VR is bad. I don't know what's wrong with a rotor though?

I assume you have the harness upgrade???

Left fan kicks on 180ish, right fan kicks on 200ish.

When the fans are on the volts will drop at idle. Mine drops to 12.3ish with both fans running at idle.

yes, I do have harness upgrade. When two fans are working, then the voltage drops to below 12.2V

My stator died tonight it seems. 4500 kms..

Volts started to drop, block from home im at 9.5 and heat was brutal on left thigh,, looked down and smoke? was coming from the vent,

Got to lane-way and sys voltage came on and she died.

Figured was due since battery light cam eon for the first time ever at a light yesterday, watched voltage bounce from 11.5 to 14.4 till she just started to plummet.

Ratgin, yours is probably the voltage regulator, although no doubt it fried your stator in the process. Not unlike the way my VR died over a year ago, minus the smoke.

Smoke is exciting when it wafts up between your legs with the smell of burning plastic.

I have black smoke stain on the white plastic vent on left side of bike.

Well, me too! I was on my way to a ride (was going to beat up on some Ducatis) when the battery light came on. Voltage started dropping. Parked the bike and had to endure the Ducati pilots looking at me sideways! I hate that from those guys! I hate when you tell them your machine is just as good if not better than theirs and something like this happens to taint their opinion (or confirm it!). The wife brought the F250 and picked me up. I had to go home with my tail between my legs. I wish Buell would solve this seemingly simple issue. I hate to even consider a Jap bike!

In a process of replacing the stator, dealer removed the exhaust (why?), and found that exhaust gaskets were leaking. They are going to replace them. Why the hell they need to remove the exhaust?

I'd have to check the service manual, it may call for removal of the muffler to get to the stator. It has a few crazy things like that, like removing the wheel to change the fuel pump.

When my CR gets out of the shop, it will be stator #3! The sad part is, when stator#2 failed, it also destroyed the rotor. I was told two weeks ago that there was a 4-6 week wait for the rotors. The stator #2 was on backorder for 2 weeks. It seems my CR is spending more time sitting inside the HD workbay than on the road these days.

Has anybody else noticed a significant rise in lead times for parts? I know HD doesn't want to support Buells anymore, but they made the commitment to continue to support them (at least until the 7 year CA rule expires). It's really starting to get ridiculous.

Just got back my Uly from the shop. This is the first time in 16 months that one of my 09 bikes is not in the shop. 09 1125CR, 09 1125R, 09 XB12X.

The shop said they will not work on them any more and to not bring them back to them.

His shop is terrible, I hate going there. They are 10 minutes from my job so it is convenient when I need a part quick, but the service is slow and terrible. It isn't that they aren't pro-buell, they just flat out suck.

It is well worth the haul to go further to Danbury or Liberty if I am in need or something.

Not to drag this off topic, a few years back they were doing a midnight madness sale, come in from 9pm - midnight, everything except bikes was 20% off, so of course I brought a shopping list of parts for my XB. They had one guy working the parts counter, and the line was pretty freakin long. My turn at the counter, I had all the part numbers ready, so I hand the guy the list. He punches them all in, he said the part number for the right side footpeg mount was obsolete and ordered the updated one. Ok fine, but I thought it was odd the left was still the same. Similar story with the headlamp assembly, I said Ok the guy ordered the superseded one.

Two days later I am looking at my receipt, and one thing that jumped out at me was one of the part numbers was wrong. Turns out the footpeg mount he ordered wasn't for my Uly like I wrote, he ordered an 1125R one. The part number difference between the Uly and 1125R is one letter, Uly parts end with AK, 1125R parts end with AM, so when I got a list of mostly AK parts, the AM jumped out at me. Sure enough my typed out paper said AK but the doofus typed in AM, and ordered up the wrong one. I called up to cancel/change it, they said it is too late, the part had shipped, and because it was a "painted part" (their words), it was subject to a 20% restock fee. What total BS, they screwed up then wanted me to pay to fix their mistake.

I also found out a month later that the headlight they ordered was also wrong, it turns out they ordered a light for left side drive countries like England. I didn't figure that out till I took a ride at night and wondered why my low beam was brighter than my high. I didn't bother going back to hear another BS excuse and get charged some more imaginary fees.

Sorry about that, just needed to get that off my chest. My father has bought HD parts off them for his dresser with similar results, so it is clear that they are just dimwits. Oh, they are now a Ducati dealer too, thats another group of people they will piss off.

What's the dealer name then? I'd hate to be up there and get hosed for anything.

My dealer've got rotor and VR in 4 days, and he had a stator in stock. I think they make those repairs on regular basis.

Got the bike back. Those bastards replaced everything - rotor, stator and VR, but the problem remained. I figured out that it was melted charging harness relay. They didn't even test it. What a bastards!
