my 09 with 10,000 miles had a bad stator after the harness fix, brother in law's also with about half the miles, checked with the dealer just now out of approx ten sold, the three with the higher mileage went bad. It seems like no one is going to make it to 10,000 miles with a 1125 without
charging system problems.

I know of two locals with 09's and over 10,000 miles without any electrical issues.

I've got nearly 14,000 miles on my 2009. Original harness and no problems. Friggin' dealer can't seem to get the updated harness, and if he does, he never bothers to call me to let me know it's in. Last time I ever buy a motorcycle from a Harley dealership, no matter what the brand.

My bike acted up last night.

I was driving at night, and the headlight went out, then the dash went out when the headlight came on. they were going back and forth. Then the dash went dark, displaying power outage. It was dark, and I was wondering if any of my lights were on, so I would not ge hit.

Apparently, there is a small light that stays on up front, kind of like a parking light.

The fans starting running constantly, and I smelled gas. I immediately did a turn around and headed home, not wanting it to die on me on the road at night.

The fans ran constantly, the lights were on dim, and the dash was totally out, displaying outage.

I made it home, but the fans would not shut off for a long time. Finally they did. I took the other bike out and when I came back and turned on the ignition on the CR, it looks like the dash came back on and the lights were normal?

I have had the wiring harness portion added.

Rex man, you've detailed the same problem in 3 different stator topics. You've confused the diagnosis of what is definitely not the normal stator issue by initiating 3 different lines of questions. Best approach would have just been to start a new topic or at least just posted in one of the existing one rather than all 3.

Yep, been following them. Just thought I would post what happened. Before the wiring harness job, the dash would suddenly go out and then back on.

But last night was kind of shocking. You are riding down the road and things start going on and off and then nothing is working. I can imagine being 300 miles from home when that happened.

I called to set up an appointment with HD. WE will see what they find. Today, it started up and ran fine, instrument panel was fine, just no headlights. Dealer said check your battery terminals. I have.

Thanks. You've successfully derailed 3 topics with something that has nothing to do with the stator issue.

Correction: make that 4 topics.

Rex

Have you done ANY diagnosis yourself? I am sure the message you saw was probably "Low Voltage" rather than "outage" but unless you actually put a meter to the battery and tell people what the readings are how are we supposed to help?

Your profile is out of date - according to it you don't have an 1125... Is it the CR you're talking about (I'm only guessing as you mention a small running light).

If you genuinely want some help, start a new thread and post some more info in it.

It is possible that your VR is having issues, or the battery, or the connections but unless you do a little leg work yourself nobody will be able to help you...

Assuming the CR is the same as the R then the fact that the bike starts should mean that your headlight relay is energising and powering the lights, if the VR is not working correctly it's possible that the headlight bulb/fuse has blown.... Have you checked?

There should be a recall if they where ther 30k couches on wheels....There core owners you know the old grey berds they would be fixing them.
This is a saftey issue espcially problems like mine when the voltage regulator kept charging at over 18 Volts.
12 volt batteries can't handle that kind of voltage and where is the battery located??
Under your a$$
No turns no gauges and it burned out a headlight.
If i hadn't taken a video with my iphone and called customer care and chewed them a new one i would have never even got that fixed...
I have 10k on my 2009 r that occured just after the recall around 6k miles.
I love this Bike and plan just to bite the bullet and pull the stator now and have it rewound before it fails just a matter of time..Even though i have a whole year of warrenty left.
ok rant over

Rt_performance, I don't mean to diminish the seriousness of your issue but it is fairly unique. Your issue is not the same as the stator issue everyone else is having.

Defining the normal stator problem as a safety issue is a bit of a stretch.
