I wonder if this could be used to cool the stator by tapping the stator cover and having an extra oil cooler on it. This is for low oil-flow applications and has been used in MotoGP. I believe it uses a split off the radiator for cooling.

Oops. The link didn't go directly to the item. Look under the Racing & Rally tab. I was looking at the heat exchanger and the model S34.

Ah yes, that would be the page. Thanks again Froggy.

If it would work and save me from stator issues for the rest of the bike's life, I would strap it across the handlebars. Actually there appears to be room running at an angle above the stator cover toward the front of the bike. Ugly? Maybe. It might hide nicely inside a lower fairing kit. They also have other shapes and sizes. I believe they will even do a custom build.

There's all ready an oil cooler on the bike, just put a T fitting and another line.

I for one will just get the stock one rewound. I think it's less about oil and more about cheap ass parts.

Bueller4ever - I have thought this may be a QA issue too.

Rewinding seems like a much better approach to me, too.

Look at the temperature of the oil and what temp the stator winding varnish melts at...it isn't a oil cooling issue.

MORE oil could be better to draw the heat away, but still not the best solution.

The electrical side should be the focus.

While fancy looking...it's just a cooler..!
All of the 1125's on the street already have coolers, from the factory.

Has anyone actually monitored the oil temperature ?

My thought's have come from NASCAR.
If this different epoxy (from a rewinder) doesn't work....

Drill a hole (or two) in the stator cover. Weld on a fitting bung (or two) of say a number #2 fitting. Tap off of a pressure location and squirt oil directly onto the stator.
A #2 may be too large so a "jet" could be used to lessen the oil flow a little.
Pieces and parts from the Nitrous Oxide (the power adder!) industry could be used to keep things small.

This idea was reinforced the other day when a neighbor was working on his little 550 Suzuki (sport bike). He had a leak.....on the "stator" side of his engine. He didn't have a new gasket, so we tried something. It didn't work.
BUT, I noticed the oil flow was huge. Way more than the 1125's oil flow.

Seeing the amount of oil coming from the case, somewhat reinforced the thought of more direct oil flow to the stator.

They included a pic of Biaggi on a two-stroke and testament to the application. That was like 1999

I bet the highest temperature the oil ever sees is well below the "damage threshold" for the potting compound they use for the stator. The damage question shouldn't be the temperature of the oil, it should be about the temperature of the stator when there is no oil carrying the heat away.
