today while riding at 5-6 g's the battery voltage was reading 12.6 taking it up to higher g's I barely got it to 13 volts. Normal is 13.6 - 14.plus and it was running a little rough. Later in the garage after fulling charging battery it was reading 14,plus volts. Wondering if this could be early signs of stator failure?

What was the voltage when you got it home, before shutting it down?

I wouldn't worry yet. When it's idling at 10 volts, then you have a problem.

I dont see a problem. Mine is like that all the time. Has been since the harness install. That was 7000 miles ago. It starts and runs all the time. Do you have an Erik Buell Racing ecm? I run lower voltages with the Erik Buell Racing ecm than the stock one.

Rpm4x4-' I run lower voltages with the Erik Buell Racing ecm than the stock one.'

Me too and I don't like riding at 4-5000 rpm all the time and watching battery light come on every time I get in the slightest bit of traffic, a stop light.

I never ride at any certain rpm and I have only had my Batt light come on once. I was on back roads at night going slow with the high beam on. I was worried about hitting a deer. I do not ride in heavy traffic ever but I do hit construction sometimes.

It was the stator. Has 2800 miles and I'm glad it was under warranty. Purchased a 7 year extented warranty for $1200 today.

Hey Bad Boy,

I'd be happy I purchased the the Extended Warranty if I were you, prolly a good move.

I personally am on my 3rd Stator and have the extended warranty as well.
It's good to know you can keep taking it back to Hardly for the next 5 years, but at the same time, gong in for the same problem more than 3 times with still no "real fix" is quite frustrating..

I feel bad for those who don't have it (especially if they paid full price) when their two years is up (which in my opinion is what Harley is kinda waiting out).

I fear Im about to have to go back in again as my charging system hit 11.9 today and was "wonky" all the way in to work today.

My Second Stator went on at about 2800 as well.

Thanks Thecowboyblack
Just wondering what the cost is to replace the stator?

No Charge with the Extended Warranty, it's covered 100%

Just a Major PITA!

Once out of warranty I think the Stators are around $600 (or something ridiculous) and then a couple hours labor cost of course.

Also now I'm kinda gun shy and find myself on my Batt screen constantly keeping an eye on my voltage instead of enjoying my (otherwise) amazing bike..

Tryin to get over it....

Bad boy, you purchased a 7 year warranty (full ESP?) for $1,200? I'm not one to buy an extended warranty, but I might bite at that! Mine just came home from it's first (and hopefully only) stator replacement ...

Don't be, I will have mine fixed while those that wasted money on the warranty keep changing stators for several years. : )

I'm with you Froggy. I will not pay $1200 for the privilege of having my bike in the shop every 9 months (even though I do like the idea of forcing H-D to continue to pay out the ass). Once the warranty is out, I'll actually fix the damn thing.

I think what froggy is saying is that a custom rewound 09 stator is better than 7 stock 09 stators.

I would have to agree.

only trouble is how/where to get a spare stator to be re-wound. my tech (yes, i only let 1 tech work on my bike) said that all teh warranty replaced items have to be sent back to verify the work was legit.

but, i fried another stator at 7k mi on the 1125. it lasted 1k mi longer than the first stator.
maybe i can get 5k out of the next one.

it started out just like what you describe. got worse the hotter the bike got. i made a few quick stops and re-starts for some new riding game pics, and it almost didn't have enough juice the last time. i think the battery tender masked the symptoms

You send off your stator, who cares about a spare. It takes 2 weeks to get it back. That's better than 5 weeks at the dealer.

I told you all ready. http://www.customrewind.com/

A member here is using a stock stator that was rewound by them. The cost is somewhere near $130.
