Does anyone know for sure the ACTUAL criteria the ECM uses to turn the 3rd stator leg on/off? I have read a lot of conjecture that it is under 5k it is OFF unless voltage is less than 12.2...but I don't believe this.

Is this parameter available to view in Tuner Pro?

OFF is temperature-triggered, either via actual temp readings or a math equation of rpm vs. coolant temp.

ON is the same, but can be overridden by system voltage drop beyond a certain point, for some reason I want to say 11.3 (i.e. if temp is still in the "off" range, a drop in V can trigger the return to full power).

At least, that's the way I understand it.

From the .pdf bulletin that came with the harness/update:

Buell Motorcycle Company has determined that a potential
charging system issue exists on 2009 and 2010 1125R and
1125CR models as well as 2008 1125R models that have
been refitted with a 2009 or 2010 replacement engine. On
these models the stator may operate at temperatures that
exceed the manufacturer’s recommendation when the vehicle
is ridden in lower-rpm (below 5,000 rpm) duty cycles. These
model motorcycles described above may experience charging
system issues related to excessive stator heat.

and...

Buell
Motorcycle Company has recently implemented a new charging system harness on the
production line. This updated harness offers improved charging system durability in low rpm
conditions.
In the interest of customer satisfaction, Buell Distribution Company, LLC is offering a no cost
upgrade installation of a sub-harness which provides the improved charging system durability on
the motorcycles described above built prior to September 24, 2009.

See? It's ALL about RPM and HEAT. But, the paperwork does not spell out specifically *how* it goes about doing the job.

Yeah, I realize this. This has been posted MANY times. The purpose of this thread was not to see the literature, but to figure out the actual programming in the ECM.

I am curious EXACTLY what parameters cause the ECM to kill the leg.

With all of the guys who run short trips, adjusting the low V threshold from "11.3" to 12.0 for instance might help them with their battery light and restarting issues, while still prolonging stator life compared to a totally harness-free system.

Bypass the ECM. Run a switch on your handlebar straight the relay. Then you can open and close the relay via the switch on the handlebar... Only enable the 3rd leg if you really need it ....

Upper RPM boundary of lower stator cooling region 2000 rpm
Lower RPM boundary of upper stator cooling region 4200 rpm
Battery above which stator control is enabled 12.2 volts
Battery below which stator control is disabled 12.0 volts
Engine temp below which stator control is disabled 10 degrees C

this what you looking for? i know a guy, who knows a guy..........

Gemini,
That is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Are those parameters available in Tuner Pro?

Upper RPM boundary of lower stator cooling region 2000 rpm
Lower RPM boundary of upper stator cooling region 4200 rpm

Any chance you could dumb that down for me?

How is the lower boundary higher than the upper boundary and I thought it was only one leg of the stator that switched so what's the "upper stator cooling region" and "lower stator cooling region"

Type slowly - I'm an idiot!

Does your actual speed have anything to do with it? I.E. stopped at a light VS. doing 30 MPH.

What happens between 2000 and 4200 rpms

speed makes no differance. these are takin straight from his notes on the descriptions and rpms.

upper rpm of lower cooling. sounds like a double negative.

what has been the effect of this strategy with everyone else? I don't really notice that anything is happening, why the questions on how it works and if it can be changed?

I heard from a source it's rather complicated logic. No details as he emailed me on vacation and didn't have access to the info.

Thank you now I can see were the flux capacitor is and that it connects directly to the sun. I knew it did and now that I see it here in the internet it must be true. Now to just get the 1.7 jigawats to.

Milt - I don't think your tear collector is anywhere near large enough. Otherwise, nice explanation.

it's 1.21 gigawatts. if you put 1.7 to the tear collector, you'll fry the 3 liter capacitor
