my stator fried a couple months ago and i had the recall done and a new stator installed under warrantee, so tonite on the way home from work on the bike,it started bucking and spitting every once in a while so i stopped and filled it up as i had 135 miles on the tank full and i thought maybe a fuel issue, but, when i pulled up to the pump my GPS and laser scrambler shut off while the bike was still running i quickly toggled to the voltage screen and it was down to 11.7 volts.I shut it down, gassed up and restarted the bike and the battery lite stayed on and the ses lite is on now too,so i guess i fried ANOTHER stator will take it to the dealer tomorrow again....

I have about 1000 miles on my second stator and it's was acting up this weekend with 'system voltage' messages, sluggish cranking, CEL, the battery light on b4 and after riding. The Battery light hasn't come on in traffic, that's probably next.

My New stator is apparently cooking my new battery.

So has it been determined if the rider can mitigate the factors which lead to a fried stator?

My '09 doesn't seem to have any issues, at least from what I can tell. The harness recall will be done as soon as my dealer can get his hands on the parts required.

Are they backordered?

Fresnobuell - It has been hinted that keeping the RPM's up past 5000 rpm's helps. I have not noticed because driving in traffic at 5000+ rpm's is a bit stupid, sorry but that's how I feel.

It has also been stated that heat is the issue and some have hinted that a good tune will do wonders. A 12:1 to 13:1 air fuel mixture apparently lets the engine run cooler. O2 driven ECM's are never happy and always trying to lean out/heat things up. Some believe that this is the bulk of the problem.

Well my o2's have been disconnected for the last 1,000 miles or so and the harness was added at a little under that, but I too have not had any problems. My voltage will drop into the mid 12's at idle when the engine is fully warmed up, but cruising it's 13.7 or higher. I have over 4,000 miles on my 09 stock stator.

I also have no electrical accessories, besides a HID low beam. I also don't have traffic to deal with and I rarely have to stop be it riding to work or just out for a cruise. 3 traffic lights on my way to work (20ish miles) and only 2 stop signs.

The 09's have a mismatched charging system.

--The 520w stator generates more heat than can be managed.
--The regulator was designed to work with a 432w stator.
--The harness upgrade is a band aid that was approved by accountants, rather than truly fixing the issue.

The best fix is to retro fit the 08 stator/regulator (a few have done this with positive results), or have the 09 stator rewound in a configuration to generate 432w (yet to be tried).

0n my 09:
--Harness upgrade performed at 1,500 miles
--Stator & regulator replaced at 3,700
--In the shop again at 4,900 miles with another fried stator.

The new stator that was replaced after the harness upgrade lasted for 1,200 miles (3 weeks) : (

What is different about the new harness? Do you think it will work with a correctly sized stator, or will we all have to back off to the old harness?

If so, old harnesses will probably be a hot commodity.

Has anyone actually confirmed that? How do we know its not intended for say 600w?

I know some folks have noticed that wires going to the regulator were discolored (read burnt) on 09s.

This much I know...the original Rotax design called for a 432w stator. 08 Stators don't fail nearly as often as 09s. Regulators don't fail nearly as often on 08s. Those who have retrofitted to 08 parts have not reported issues. YMMV.

The harness upgrade is an addon. It can be removed. The harness can be connected per the original configuration.

Dannybuell - For what it's worth...I was beginning to see mid 11's to low 12's most of the time. I tried to ride at above 5,000 RPM and that helped some but not that much and she would drop off quickly anyhow. So I keep it on a tender these days. Now I see steady low to mid 13's at any RPM between 3,000 and 6,500. She reads 13.3 or 13.4 whether I'm at 3,000 or 6,500. Only time she dips into the 12's is at a long signal light but will climb back up into the 13's once I get moving again. I have a stock 09' CR with the Erik Buell Racing pump gas ECM. The "new" harness was installed at delivery.

i took it to the dealer and they confirmed that the stator was burnt up again...the new one lasted a couple thousand miles so i guess a new stator every other month for ever or as long as i ride the bike that will truely suck...

How do you burn up a stator that fast and mine is still going strong over 4k miles? what is your typical riding like? How many miles per ride?

Do you not think the extra accessories maybe partly to blame?

Just a heads up but did you ever think that it could just be the relay. I had to replace mine and now I keep a spare on the bike.

I had my 09 1125r stator replaced at 5200 miles. The harness was done previously. This time they also uploaded a different tune to the ecm. Engine sounds like it is sucking more air in. On Erik Buell Racing's facebook page prior to taking my bike in I posted the problem, they responded saying the stator will be accompanied with a new tune to alleviate the high temperatures. I was also told that the erik buell racing ecm's will also provide this fix.

These are the newest flash versions, which should have been loaded when they installed the harness. Without the latest flash, i don't think the harness will work properly.

If there is some newer flash version, then you are the first to post about it.

I have 6200 miles on my 09 so far with no problems. I have no accesories. I have been running an Erik Buell Racing ecm for about 1000miles. It does feel cooler. Most of my riding is 4k rpm with a few stoplights mixed in. The only time I see 5k+ rpm is when im gettin on it. Average temps that I ride in are below 90 degrees. Higher temps than that I ride my XB because its naked.

Just to be clear Im not bragging, just posting up info for reference. Id like to have a real fix available someday when mine does die. The 08 rotor and stator sounds like my best choice so far.

I wonder how much the difference is between the labor a dealer bills back to HD and the cost of a properly designed and built stator? Mine is in the shop now awaiting the first replacement stator and will get the harness done at the same time. Of course they called today to let me know the stator is on backorder. The second failures mentioned in this thread really bugs me, but hopefully someone will get a clue and come out with a true fix.

1125rmatt, the only proven fix is to put in a stator and rotor from a 2008 1125R
