Well yesterday was the day, with less then 7000 km my voltage started dropping into the 12.6 to 12.9 range rather then the usual 13.7 to 14.3. I turned around and started heading back to town when the voltage dropped to 12.5. I was not sure if I was going to make it and kept trying to remember what voltage some one on here had said their bike quit at. I was thinking that I had read 11.2. The voltage kept slowly dropping, I did make it back to town and just as I turned into my buddies driveway with my cluster starting to screw up, the last voltage reading was in the 8.8 range then the bike stalled a meter or so in front of the garage door. I do have the harness upgrade/downgrade installed but after five attempts at having the local dealer install the correct re-flash, I have all but given up arguing with them. I do like the sales and parts guys but not at all impressed with the service end of things. Looks like I have no choice now but to take it in to them. Has anyone out there heard anything about a redesign or improved materials for replacement stators yet? I have been steadily liking my bike more and more, but not being able to trust it on a long trip kinda defeats the purpose of having a new bike. I find myself thinking about a certain bright red BMW F800 S once again

Aj, just wondering if you are considering abandoning your Buell because of the bike or the service at your local dealer? I have been reading alot about people wanting to change to a different bike due to reliability issues. I love my 1125r and have had some small issues, but nothing that ever made me want to get rid of it.

Maul, you can have the crappiest bike in the world, if the support dealer is great it won't seem so bad, but if you have a near perfect bike but a crappy dealer, it will feel very painful when trying to get even little things done.

As far was we know, the replacement stator is the same as the original one.

Maul, as far as bad things go, this was expected at some point. And it didn't leave me out in the middle of no where. I mostly do half or full day trips as well as the after work stuff ..... but I did take a few day trip from here in Calgary out to the coast (Vancouver) and I remember feeling very anxious and edgy when driving in Vancouver, stop light to stop light, just knowing that my stator could melt down at any moment. Most of the trip was highway so had a blast but the in town part really had me worried. Even with a replacement stator the problem has not been solved. Shit parts out, shit parts in kinda thing. I don't usually mind city driving and it should be even more enjoyable in a city that I have not been to or not often. It should not have felt the way it did. I didn't buy a new bike anticipating feeling that way while riding it. I could have bought a trouble free old bike and not been still making payments on it while it sits at the dealer. Don't get me wrong, I know things happen but from what I've read it sounds like Harley isn't going to do anything to correct the problem. Just keep installing crappy stators until the warranty runs out. I admit that the 1125 was not the perfect bike for me, but there are many things that I do like about it. And there was not a great deal of choice in a liquid cooled Buell
Any way I will just have to wait an see. After washing it while it was on the charger, I drove it to the dealership and was told that since I didn't make an appointment it could be a couple of weeks before they can bring it in and take a look at it ..... gee I wish I knew what day that service guy had off, so I could pick one of those days to go in

Aj, that really sucks. I have had good luck with mine, so far. I hope all this works out for you in the end.

Froggy, I agree, I was just curious.

I have to believe that someone will make an aftermarket stator for the 1125. If and when it is available I will buy it. I dont care if my bike still has a warrantee or not. The stator failing on a road trip has been my only nagging worry about the 1125.

Is there an improved stator/RR?

If so, does anyone know the part number(s)?

I'm thinking it's time to buy a few extra spare parts for a rainy day...

Not yet, but we can still hope.

HD's solution so far has been the charging harness upgrade : (

Why is it that the 09's have the problem and not the 08's too?

08 use a 432 w stator. 09 uses a 520w stator which generates more heat than can be managed.

So the fired stator is entirely different than the loose stator nut issue? Sorry for the elementary question, but I am late the the party.

Is the stator easy to replace, just the part is damned expensive?

Good question. It SEEMS like it would be easy to replace, but I don't really know. Hopefully I don't have to find out firsthand. lol.

I was reading the shop manual today, and it seems like a pain in the butt.

If you follow the manual, you need a ton of specialized tools (crankshaft locking dingus, gasket alignment dowels, a gizmo for removing oil lines...)

Additionally, you need a couple of gaskets and 3 quarts of oil.

My guess Erik Buell Racing is sending the '09 stator back to HD as a part of a deal for the '08 (which suit racing electrical needs better than the more power draining larger '09 stators. Obviously, HD will use them to replace the fried stators during warranty work.

Fresnobuell - I thought electrical parts were not returnable. Now they are swapping parts? IDK.

Maybe non returnable from Joe Public, but I am sure Erik Buell Racing and HD are working closer than we may think. Seems to me that it makes sense if HD needs the upgraded 09 stators (to replace fried stators under warranty) and Erik Buell Racing prefers the low drag '08 stators.why wouldn't they do some sort of tradeout? All speculation of course.

Because my bike is waiting for a stator, I had some spare time on my hands. I combed the net for the 'oil line remover' tool mentioned in the manual. I found the exact one from the manual for $59 someplace.

Is there anything really special about this tool? There are about half a zillion others on the market for about $20. Is it important to have exactly the right size or something?

I don't know anything either, but I would be dumbfounded if that was at all true. Erik has better things to do, and Harley is corporately incapable of admitting they are wrong. Heck, at this point with the outsourcing of parts and sloppy closing of Buell, I doubt they really even understand the problem yet.

I believe where it makes $$$ sense anything is possible--but in retrospect you very well may be correct.
